BOROS BURN is a Standard deck I've been running with for a while now -- with quite good results overall! (i.e., several 4-0's and 3-1's in MTGO Standard events, several 1st places in local FNMs, etc -- I haven't had a chance to play any high-level events with this one, yet.)

The key to this build is its strict adherence to the "Philosophy of Fire". This means that almost every single non-land card in the deck including its creatures is, functionally, a burn spell. I recently moved the 4x Eidolon of the Great Revel to the main specifically for this reason, despite the fact that in general having fewer creatures equates to "Virtual Card Advantage". There are just so few match-ups where the Eidolon is bad in the current meta.

However, the fact that the deck is often a "Draw-Go" deck makes playing it almost feel like a control deck (especially combined with the lifegain... which helps with the self-damage from the Eidolons and lands). Indeed, against aggro and creature-based midrange decks, this is a control deck!

How does burn maintain control?! By exiling or charring any creature that's a serious threat, and by attacking your opponent's life total so directly and so rapidly that they are forced to play a different game than they intended. By turn 3 or 4, they'll think twice about any effect that involves paying life -- be it a Thoughtseize or an un-tapped shock land! From there, by playing carefully and correctly, it is never too difficult to seal the deal.

(NOTE: Cards listed in the "maybe-board" are, with few exceptions, things I'm considering for the sideboard -- NOT the main deck! If the card is already included in this deck list, then the number given is what I'm considering for somewhere in my 75, in addition to the number in the deck currently. Also -- I've mostly just included this stuff so I can keep track of, and remember, it all!)

As always, all questions // comments // suggestions // up-votes (of course!) are much appreciated. Thanks for looking!

Updates Add

I've made several small changes to the deck's "numbers" and the sideboard over the past several weeks -- during which time this has without a doubt become my main "go-to" deck, both in my local shop and on MTGO.

I'm still undecided on a few sideboard slots (thus the somewhat extensive "maybeboard") but overall VERY happy with where this deck's at right now.

I have yet to test out the 3x Boros Reckoner in the board, but I think it'll work wonders for my Rabble Red match-up -- definitely a tough one for both sides, and one that seems so often to come down to the dice roll. I'm hoping to be able to end that, and use this deck to stabilize and restore control there just as it does against so many others. The only miserable match-up is Selesnya Aggro, and I was running 3x Ratchet Bomb since it can deal with the Wurm tokens as well as the Rabblemaster's gobbo horde. That said, the card just wasn't doing enough for me. I think the Reckoner should be good in both of those scenarios!

Last thing, for now, is that I'd like to take a moment to reflect -- now that they've been cut from the main for a while -- just how much I miss Shock and wish I could work them back in somehow, or add one more to the board. The card works WONDERS against aggro, and can be the crucial difference in so many situations. If there's any serious change to the deck, it will be to work in more Shocks!
