The goal here is to disrupt the opponent's mana via locking down library searches(stopping fetchlands), and/or destroying lands by breaking parity on cheap land destruction spells. Once the opponent is behind on resources the deck can use a win-con such as Nahiri, the Harbinger into Emrakul, or Chandra/creature/burn beat down.

This deck features the classic Boom / Bust package with Flagstones of Trokair and indestructible lands to break parity on both sides of the spell. Cleansing Wildfire becomes a two mana Stone Rain cantrip with a Leonin Arbiter and/or Aven Mindcensor out, and also doubles as a cantrip Rampant Growth when aimed at our own Flagstones of Trokair or indestructible land (This enables a planeswalker to be played as early as turn 3). Also Ghost Quarter becomes Strip Mine if the opponent can’t search their library, so that’s good value.

Monkey Ban Update Show

We mourn for the loss of our beloved monkey Simian Spirit Guide. He died for the sins of WOTC's F.I.R.E. design model. While deliberating over whether or not I wanted to give up on this deck because of the ban, I came to the realization that this was actually an exciting chance to rebuild the deck. Instead of focusing on the deck's prison aspects with Blood Moon and Chalice of the Void, I want to lean harder into the land destruction aspect by adding a Boom / Bust package and increasing both Pillage and Aven Mindcensor to a full playset. I also increased the amount of spot removal and burn with a full playset of Lightning Bolt (should have done that long ago).

MH2 Update Show

With the release of MH2 this deck gets a few new toys. The indestructible dual lands are great because we can increase the number of targets for Boom / Bust and Cleansing Wildfire without using colorless lands. Despite being tapped lands I found myself wanting them more, so I added a slight black splash with a couple of Drossforge Bridges, which means we can now replace Pillage with Vindicate which can still blow up lands just as well, along with any other possible threat. To make sure we have enough black mana to cast them I added one Savai Triome which is fetchable with Flagstones of Trokair in place of a Sacred Foundry. This is of little cost since the foundries would have come in to play tapped off of the flagstones anyway. I also added one swamp to fetch off a Cleansing Wildfire or Ghost Quarter in a pinch. With all this fetching I trimmed one leonin arbiter and added some Obsidian Dreadmaw from MH2 for more land destruction in my top end. While I was at all of this I also added a couple of Anger of the Gods and a Settle the Wreckage to deal with this deck's weakness to go-wide strategies.
