Sideboard

If Zurgo Helmsmasher has taught me anything, it's that a commander with indestructible and evasion (Haste, Flying, Trample, Unblockable, Menace, Fear, etc) makes for a really powerful voltron commander. That's where the similarities between Zurgo and Bontu the Glorified end though, because Bontu is so much more than that.

Bontu the Glorified's clause of being unable to attack or block unless a creature you control has died during in that turn can be pretty tough to work around... in Standard! Modern / EDH though? We have access to a lot of cards that can sac at instant-speed (Including Bontu himself), as well as cards that profit off of you sacrificing creatures. Bontu's ability to pay (1)(B) at instant-speed to scry 1 and drain ALL OPPONENTS is super-duper powerful, and needs to be exploited in this deck. So our commander gives us a few really sweet options for this deck; Voltron, Self-sacrifice, and Drain.

Basilisk Collar, Blade of the Bloodchief, Lashwrithe, Nightmare Lash, Strata Scythe, Swiftfoot Boots, and Sword of War and Peace turn our 4/6 menace indestructible commander into a neigh untouchable machine of pain. Mass exile / return to hand effects are the only real threats to this strategy, which is laughable, considering your commander to be cast again, either from your hand or from the command zone, and equipment will stay on the board.

Added flavour and also terrifying as hell is Erebos, God of the Dead. When paired with Bontu the Glorified, you have two Gods that play off eachother's abilities. sink mana into them to deal damage that can't be gained back, gain life, scry, then use that life you gained to draw that card you scry'd. Overwhelming if you have a lot of mana (which Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx, Caged Sun, Magus of the Coffers, and Nirkana Revenant will make sure of).

Bloodchief Ascension can get out of hand if you can spam a few Bontu triggers. Add Mindcrank and that's game over as soon as that's online :) We also have another infinite kill combo in the sideboard, with Mikaeus, the Unhallowed and Triskelion. Another combo in this deck is the good ol' Dark Depths + Vampire Hexmage / Hex Parasite. get a 20/20 flying indestructible token as early as turn 3!

Lots of Vampires, Zombies, Demons and even some Eldrazi. Yahenni, Undying Partisan is a mana-free way of sacrificing your own creatures, and giving you 2 indestructible attackers / blockers (and a threat all it's own). Pawn of Ulamog makes a token that can sac itself whenever another creature you control is sac'd. Smothering Abomination and Sifter of Skulls are super scary with Bontu the Glorified.

We're mono-black, so removal is strong. Bile Blight obliterates token armies, Malicious Affliction will typically get morbid online in this particular deck (Tragic Slip also likes this deck). Hero's Downfall for when your Menace commander can't quite get through to smack that Planeswalker. Sudden Spoiling for the lols. Damnation and Yahenni's Expertise
