Alright.

So this deck is relatively straight-forward.

There are 2 goals:

 1. Generate mana. 2. Assemble one of your two 2-card combos as soon as possible.

Option 1 :

Auriok Salvagers + Lion's Eye Diamond. This will generate infinite mana of all colors, thereby allowing you cast Breya and infinite number of times and burning all of your opponents to death while creating infinite thopters.

Option 2 :

Worldgorger Dragon + Animate Dead / Dance of the Dead / Necromancy. This will also generate infinite colored mana, however to execute this combo you need to either a) have Brey in play already or b) have a second target for your Enchanimator in any graveyard to end the loop. You can then proceed to win the game with Breya.

Both of these combos are rather fragile. So, we have a good amount of protection.

Discard

-- Thoughtseize - unconditional discard : A+

-- Duress - will discard any instant-speed interaction : A

Counterspells

-- Force of Will : Free when we need it : A+

-- Mana Drain - expensive, but can ramp us into victory with ease : A+

-- Swan Song - Very Cheap, Very flexible : A

-- Flusterstorm - cheap, hard to interact with : A

-- Red Blast / Pyroblast - Cheap, counters counterspells, conditional removal : A-

-- Dispel - counters counterspells and removal, versatile : A-

-- Arcane Denial - not as cheap as we'd like, but replaces itself : B+

-- Mindbreak Trap - expensive!! except when you need it, then it's free : B+

-- Unsubstantiate - can interact with uncounterable spells, can interact with creatures in play : B+

Protection

-- Silence - stops everyone when you need it to win the game : A+

-- stops one player, or stops an attack : A-

We also want to be able to find our combo as quickly as possible so we have very powerful draw spells and tutors.

Draw / Card Selection

-- Ad Nauseam - instant speed, draw 20ish cards, win the game : A++

-- Brainstorm - with fetchlands, this is like ancestral recall : A+

-- Fact or Fiction - instant speed, puts cards in graveyard, great selection : A+

-- Frantic Search - instant speed, discard outlet, "free" : A+

-- Necropotence - expensive, color-intensive, likely wins the game next turn : A+

-- Ponder - can see up to 4 cards, can give you a needed shuffle : A

-- Preordain - can put cards on bottom, excellent selection : A

-- Thirst for Knowledge - instant speed, discard outlet, increases card count : A

-- Wheel of Fortune - discard outlet, hand refiller : A

-- Windfall - discard outlet, usually refills hand : A-

-- Timetwister - resets gracveyard, refills hand : A-

-- Faithless Looting - discard outlet, flashback is exceptional : A-

-- Careful Study - discard outlet, cheap, sees 2 extra cards : A-

-- Mystic Remora - cheap at first, can draw many cards for little mana : A-

-- Rhystic Study - generally just a tax effect, gains time, sometimes cards : B+

-- Recurring insight - refills hand after dumping rocks, draws again when untapped next turn : B+

Tutors

-- Intuition - instant speed, versatile, wins the game (LED + Salvagers + Unburial Rites) : A++

-- Vampiric Tutor - instant speed, grabs anything, no reveal : A+

-- Demonic Tutor - cheapish, no reveal, grabvs anything : A+

-- Mystical Tutor - cheap, instant, versatile : A

-- Enlightened Tutor - cheap, instant, versatile : A-

-- Grim Tutor - expensive, no reveal, grabs anything : A-

-- Imperial Seal - cheap, very slow, grabs anything : A-

-- Entomb - instant, cheap, grabs combo pieces : A-

-- Buried Alive - grabs combo creatures, expensive : B+

We follow all of this up with a suite of cheap/instant-speed/versatile removal.

And lastly all the usual suspects when it comes to artifact mana to get us up and off the ground as quickly as we can.

We run only 30 lands as we only need to get up to 4 mana to win the game and we have plenty of artifact mana. On top of that, we have so much card selection we shouldn't be missing land drops often at all.

The maybe board has a smattering of speed-increasers (tutors, more fast-mana) interaction, and anti-interaction. Each of which I believe deserves some proper testing.

EDIT

  • -- Boros Signet

  • -- Azorius Signet

  • -- Gilded Lotus

  • -- Orzhov Signet

  • -- Rhystic Study

  • -- Mystic Remora

  • -- Timetwister

  • ++ Tainted Pact

  • ++ Jace, Vryn's Prodigy

  • ++ Grand Abolisher

  • ++ Night's Whisper

  • ++ Dack Fayden

  • ++ Sensei's Divining Top

  • ++ Lim-Dul's Vault

In essence, we cut back on some of the artifact mana, as I felt as though we had an excess of that, but not enough real cards. Then We cut some of the more expensive (in mana cost or in utility) card draw spells. We traded in for cheaper draw, better selection, and one more protection piece.
