Bolas Doomsday

Commander / EDH

MetalTrsu

Have you ever thought about playing Doomsday in EDH/Commander?

It's a neat concept to me considering you only get to use one card where Doomsday is normally backed up with other cards in multiples like Gitaxian Probe. Or the Moxen are there to support the board with free mana, along with Black Lotus .

Just the idea of going for a 'All in' Strategy and tuning the deck to that strategy is pretty sweet. The idea of Doomsday is to set up something known as a Doomsday pile(s). Piles are the five cards you choose to stack your deck with when you cast Doomsday. Each pile can differ based on the situation and what you're expecting or up against. The catch of casting doomsday and making a mistake is that you lose.

Several different piles can be made and I'm going to go over a few of them.

Doomsday Piles

Gush, (Faithless Looting, Frantic Search, Careful Study), Street Wraith, Laboratory Maniac, Unearth

Predict , Laboratory Maniac, Gitaxian Probe, Unearth, Street Wraith

Gitaxian Probe, Ideas Unbound , Laboratory Maniac, Pact of Negation, Street Wraith

Thought Scour, Laboratory Maniac, Deep Analysis, Temporal Mastery, Reanimate

Gitaxian Probe, Thought Scour, Mikaeus, the Unhallowed, Triskelion, Victimize

These piles assume that you take your next turn and draw the first card in every line. Which in turns sets you up for your Win with Lab Maniac. I've put in cards that allow draw without having to wait the extra turn. But they need more mana for the pile to go off. Cards such as Chromatic Sphere , Hedron Archive, and Dreamstone Hedron are cards that let you draw cards. Chromatic Sphere is probably better to have out on the table due to it being an actual mana ability which makes it harder for people to stop.

Inspiration and the description for Doomsday piles are taken from this article as I am still wrapping my head around the complexity of the entire deck and how to play it. - Doomsday Piles - By Jake Frondorf
