Musings on cut-ables, future replacements. —July 23, 2016

I have a Twilight's Call and Torrent of Souls. I don't want to run Twilight's per se but I eventually want a Patriarch's Bidding and/or a Living Death. The deck I sort of modeled this one after uses all three, along with a Yawgmoth's Will, which I'll probably never get.

I don't have Grave Pact yet, and if I did I'm not sure if it's worth running both it and Dictate of Erebos. Obviously Butcher of Malakir would go out. I have Grave Betrayal already so I should probably slide it in anyway since it is supposed to pair up with those two cards. Doesn't combo quite as well without them but whatever.

Cards on the chopping block: Brightstone Ritual, Massive Raid, Goblin Offensive, Bravado.

Not as many as I'd have hoped.

Read the Bones --> Phyrexian Arena

Bravado --> Shared Animosity

Butcher of Malakir --> Grave Pact/Dictate of Erebos

Brightstone Ritual --> Grave Betrayal *Swapped 7/24

Goblin Offensive --> Coat of Arms

Quest for the Goblin Lord --> Door of Destinies? I'd prefer to run both.

Still need space for Door of Destinies. The Nim Deathmantle trick with Ashnod's Altar and two-token-upon-entry-generators is probably worth running too, since I'm planning on Thornbite Staff shenanigans. I still think a Dolmen Gate might be worth running, too.

I love my creature base as-is but there are still a few that need to go in. I haven't seen Knucklebone Witch do his thing yet but he seems good and like a potential weak win-con. Beetleback Chief and Goblin Marshal perhaps? I don't want to lose too many token-generators though. I can always tutor Krenko, Mob Boss in but that's a little janky to just rely on one card of 99. Plus, I'll need them if I go the Nim Deathmantle combo route. Stingscourger maybe but he's great for dealing with Avacyn, Angel of Hope and similar types. He's recurrable with Wort so it seems potent so far. Goblin Dark-Dwellers have saved my bacon numerous times but I could see them being replaced. Battle Squadron is a bit weaker of a card but in my meta I need fliers whenever I can get them. Akroma's Memorial or, better yet, Eldrazi Monument might help but swapping one of those two for Battle Squadron doesn't free up a slot for a new card. Still amazing cards though...

I need to squeeze in Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker, Goblin Wizard, Goblin Chieftain. Probably want Warren Instigator and Legion Loyalist as well. Arg!

Thank you for your input, Gattison, and your vote!

It is one of the swaps for Pack's Disdain, which is in due to my local meta having several regenerators and indestructibles I have to frequently encounter and deal with.

It was in the very first build and still resides in the physical side deck. While token proliferation is the primary theme of the deck, I never found Goblin War Strike or Massive Raid or Dogpile as helpful as having other utility cards. It felt like I would have them long before my numbers were significant or never have them once the board was boggart-flooded. In that sense they're kind of in "win more" territory anyway. Just attacking with the gobbos, ideally with an anthem or four, tends to do the trick much better. Burn at the Stake is a better win-con and won't be leaving the deck soon. Spot-removing threats with targetted direct damage cards like these also isn't super-reliable and there are already several cards that do just that or more and/or better. It just isn't that common for direct player damage to swing a game where attacking wouldn't. Propaganda, Koskun Falls, Ghostly Prison, Dissipation Field, etc... sure, Goblin War Strike will break a stalemate. I'll burn that bridge when I get to it.

I feel that the cards shine more (and quite brightly) in a Krenko-headed mono-red deck that really triple-downs on tokens or in a 60-card deck where the damage is more significant.
