Description

Blue Magic is the magic of control. The primary power lies in counter magic, suppression and bounce. The goal is to make it so that all enemy aggression and resistance just...stop. The opponent should be able to do less and less of value as the game advances until the lock is achieved.

This is an Old School Magic blue control/counter deck with a theme of Amy Weber artwork and surrealism.

Strategy

The deck uses cheap blockers and counters to slow down early aggression. The aim is to keep enough life to last out the early game so as to attain a lock condition. Cards such as Black Vise and Wall of Wonder are used to close out the game quickly after the lock so as to not drag the game overly long. As a point of courtesy, it is best if the game ends quickly after the point of decision.

Tactics

Blockers

• Brass Man and Ornithopter: These creatures are efficient blockers in the early game to allow early aggression and prevent early aggression from the opponent.
• Wall of Wonder: This doubles as a blocker and a late game damage source to end out the game when there are no effective blockers.
• Wall of Kelp: This is one of the best cards in the deck. This can generate both blockers and combos for lockout conditions.

Control

• Counterspell and Power Sink: These are the counter magic of choice for the deck.
• Nevinyrral's Disk and Hurkyl's Recall: These are board wipes that clear the board in case of overwhelming numbers.
• Control Magic and Copy Artifact: These are utilized to take or copy the key creatures or artifacts from the opponent.

Synergies

• Stasis + Temporal Adept or Time Elemental: This combination creates a one sided lock by keeping the opponent's cards tapped indefinitely while allowing the deck's cards to be untapped.
• Opposition + Wall of Kelp : This combination increasingly taps out all of an opponent's permanents (preferably during their upkeep).
