Bloodbraid Zoo

Modern RGW (Naya)

Sideboard

The recent unbanning of Bloodbraid Elf has opened up many opportunities for deck to get much better, Jund tends to be the deck that comes to mind when you here blooodbraid elf but the Zoo deck also benefits from this card greatly.

What Zoo is

Zoo is a playstyle that is seen in multiple games, like hearthstone has zoo decks, and basically what that deck as well as the mtg version do is spill out efficient creatures for cheap. So Wild Nacatl for example is a 1-mana 3/3 if you have a Stomping Ground and a Temple Garden in play on turn two and ready to attack. So you can use those 2 mana you have and drop a Burning-Tree Emissary and get 2 more mana to cast a Reckless Bushwhacker for it's surge cost and then swing for 9 on turn 2, which is pretty impressive.

What Bloodbraid does for Zoo

Bloodbraid Elf allows us to play a haste 3/2, but also hit one of our other creatures and free cast. Every creature in the deck costs less that Bloodbraid Elf so you're assured to get a creature of removal spell out of it. Basically, bloodbraid allows for a very explosive turn 4 and really speeds the deck up.

Other important cards

  • Path to Exile Best removal spell in the format, need 3 or 4 of them
  • Experiment One played on turn one can become a 3/3 on turn 2, or is a 1-mana 3/3 which is still great
  • Lightning Bolt can get extra damage through or pick off an early game Tarmogoyf or any other creature with 3 toughness

Finally got around to playing this deck at fnm, went 3-2 (8-5 on the night). Round 1 went 2-1 against storm, round 2 barely lost to the G/W devoted druid deck, 1-2, round 3 2-0 against elves (round ended in under 10 mins), round 4 went 1-2 against ponza, and round 5 2-0 against UW control (round also ended in under 10 mins). Can't say i'm disappointed by the results, especially considering I had no sideboard.
