Bloodbraid Lands

Modern RGW (Naya)

Sideboard

WOTC dropped a bomb on Modern last week with the simultaneous unbanning of BBE and JTMS.Bloodbraid spiked in price, but I had a set kicking around from Alara drafts, so I thought I would brew up a shell for the Queen of Value herself.

This is draft 0 and I have no idea if it will hold together or not.

DRAFT 0: Bloodbraid Lands, a Naya deck for Modern

==================================================

The gameplan with this deck is fairly similar to COCO turbolands / valuetown builds. BBE and COCO are nonbos, but they both feed off the same kind of card. We need a critical mass of dorks on 3 and a high threshold of creatures in general to make COCO not a whiff. I was hoping to throw something together with cards from my collection, so there will almost certainly be a bunch of spicy 1-ofs.

My initial brainstorm coalesced as the following cards:

Bloodbraid Elf, Collected Company on 4.

Knight of the Reliquary, Ramunap Excavator, Tireless Tracker, and potentially Eternal Witness, Reclamation Sage, Kitchen Finks, Loxodon Smiter, Courser of Kruphix, and/or Domri Rade on 3.

Scavenging Ooze, Voice of Resurgence, Qasali Pridemage, Dromoka's Command, any number of Hate Bears on 2.

Birds of Paradise, Path to Exile, Lightning Bolt, Wild Nacatl on 1.

Gavony Township, Bojuka Bog, Horizon Canopy, Field of Ruin, Ghost Quarter, et cetera for utility.

Now that I type all of this out, it occurs to me that there could be a better BBE/COCO build for a rg ponza-style brew. It would be very hard to play Fulminator Mage here, and that is something I would love to do. BBE into hasty dorks or guys that destroy permanents seems more synergistic than dumping guys on the field that you need to either untap with or hit multiple land drops after resolving to recoup the value lost.

I anticipate this deck having several of the following issues regularly:

-A manabase that relies heavily on nonbasics and requires all three colors to function being capitalized on by Blood Moon decks.

-That same mana base having trouble hitting large quantities of green to maximize Scooze's potential.

-The reliance on hate creatures and silver bullets out of the board combined with the randomness of cascade and COCO leading to a poor match up versus unfair decks.

-The desire I have to play cards like Bolt and Path and Domri or Blood Moon in a COCO deck making the value engine more of a roulette.

-Me not being able to afford Tarmogoyfs or black lands and cards to make this actual Jund.
