2-1 @ Casual tournament.. —Nov. 15, 2014

This is the first live testing of this deck.. Therefore, I decided to enter the Casual tournament rather than the more competitive Modern tournament, so I could hopefully get a better feel for how I should develop the deck from here..

~~

Vs R/B/G EDH deck: 2-0

Yes, this guy brought in an EDH deck to play with. I forgot the name of the commander he was using, as I never saw it (it was shuffled in with the rest of his deck).. But as an EDH deck, it was simply too slow to get it's engine online, and I was very quick to smush him.. I didn't even bother sideboarding for the second match..

Vs R/B/W Mardu Aggro: 2-1

This kid was rolling with a standard deck consisting of all 1-drop creatures, and a couple of other spells for control purposes.. It was actually rather intense, and very back & forth all three matches.. He managed to squeak out the first match. Afterwards I sided in all of my Burn, which really didn't make much of a difference the second match, as I didn't draw literally any of it, but I did manage to eventually overwhelm him all the same. The third match, on the otherhand, Burn made all the difference in the world. Turn-2 saw me swinging with a unleashed Rakdos Cackler from the previous turn followed by two Bump in the Nights. After that it was pretty back & forth again, until I top-decked a Lightning Bolt for the victory.. GG..

Vs Affinity (with Tempered Steel & Ensoul Artifact): 0-2

This was incredibly intense for the both of us, but in the end he just plain out valued me.. The first match I kept a hand with two Terminates, so I was able to fend off the initial assault, but was eventually taken out by an Ornithopter equipped with two Cranial Platings. I think I slightly flubbed the sideboarding by only keeping Haste creatures, instead of taking out my 4-drops.. Either way, the end of the second one had me staring down an Etched Champion, a Tempered Steel, & a proxied Mox Opal w/Ensoul Artifact.

Conclusions..

All-in-all I had fun piloting this deck against others, and I look forward to refining this to become even more effective!

Changes since..

-1 Demonspine Whip --> +1Ashenmoor Gouger

-1Mountain --> +1 Lavaclaw Reaches

I'm feeling like with the current modern scene, you might want to run one or two Underworld Cerberus just to secure the win, he's the brickiest of brick walls and lets you fetch up your dead cacklers.

Oh yeah, and he's unblockable :D

Hi there, I've seen your deck a few times, but I kept forgetting to login later and comment. I would strongly suggest using 3-4x Falkenrath Aristocrat . I've seen people use her in their Rakdos decks on MTGO, and she wins the game most of the time. She's simply difficult to deal with while applying loads of pressure. Anyway, good luck, +1 :)

Oh yeah, aggro decks are much better friend with Spike Jester than Goblin Deathraiders but a 50/50 split would be fine too.

Whoops just noticed you had both already, sorry.

Why is Lightning Bolt in the SB?

Sorry for the late replies all, but here goes...

@WonderbreadDan: Thank you for the compliment, and most of all--the Upvote! :D

@CricketYT: I do like your first suggestion, and the other two as well.. lol.. But I'll have to do some playtesting to see if it would better fit in either the main or side.. Upvote perhaps?..

@tchau204: Now I really like that idea, however I'll be keeping it x1-2 for the time being, as I don't squeeze out all of my other 4-drops in the process.. Again, some live playtesting is required, and of course thank you for the Upvote.. :D

@tclaw12: I specifically address that in the "Sideboard.." section in the deck description above.. :) Afterwards Upvote maybe?..

Yeah sorry I didn't read that but it makes sense now haha. Are you going to get Bloodstained Mire while it is in standard?

And of course I'll upvote ;)

I Think Falkenrath Aristocrat should be replaced with something like Olivia Voldaren seeing as how you only have two different creatures that are human.

Also, although Excava is cool, there is only one other creature that has actual +1/+1 counters on it (Rakdos Cackler) so I would suggest replacing all your Excava's with Ashenmoor Liege or Blightning

November 4, 2014 7:15 p.m.

@tclaw12: Thanks :) And indeed I'll eventually be getting ahold of some Bloodstained Mire (s), but not for this deck per se' because in this case that kind of color fixing is completely unnecessary as the mana base is already consistent enough as-is..

@firestar157: Falkenrath Aristocrat isn't here for the sac ability, but for those first two keywords in the text box: Flying & Haste--- so it's immediately swinging overhead for 4 (Aggro baby).. Olivia Voldaren on the other hand, while a strong card too, is better suited for more of a Midrange/Control build (and can still be Lightning Bolt ed away).. Exava, Rakdos Blood Witch is here for similar reasons; her last ability is neat but it's because she's a 4/4 First Strike that can immediately be turned sideways (Aggro-Aggro-Aggro).. However Blightning I've been considering for a while now, and is likely to find a few slots in the SB with the rest of my Burn.. So, with all that considered; what do you think? And would you Upvote? :D

@metroid_hybrid can you advise me on my mono white deck?

What do you think of Brute Force as an alternative to Titan's Strength? It loses scry, but it's better at keeping your creatures alive through combat.

...and can act as pseudo-protection from Lightning Bolt as well... Hmm, a Giant Growth.. That's very interesting.. No, I haven't considered it before, heck, it even fits the flavor of the deck better by a hair too. I simply used Titan's Strength because I already had a playset. I'm definitely considering now, although the loss of Scry could prove to be game-altering as well.. I should be able to tell after some live testing..

I would add more Ashenmoor Gouger and less Goblin Deathraiders. I like the deck and it has a good price. Nice job!!!

Have you considered Mogis, God of Slaughter, your decks practically tailored for it.

and maybe Dreadbore instead of Terminate. also you might like to consider Manaforge Cinder another one mana drop creature is always useful

tchau204 says... #19

I don't know about the Whip man.. It's only good in the "late-game" when you've run out of steam and can take advantage of a mana-sink. If the game ever gets there, you should've already lost. Instead, you should use this card slot to make sure you win the early game..

I think that this deck would be way better with a few one drops, even if they dont synergize with fists and liege

I agree with llamaglama01. You should add Stromkirk Noble or Monastery Swiftspear.
