Biodriver's Last Stand (2nd at Gameday)

Standard* RUG (Temur)

Sideboard

As brothers from different-colored mothers, Master Biomancer and Ogre Battledriver have had some fun shenanigans over the last couple rotations. Now, as grizzled vets of the Standard scene, they have teamed with a variety of M15 rookies for one last hurrah. Mass tokens and ridiculous interactions rule the day.

This deck started out being pretty casual, but has been surprisingly competitive, including a few Top 4 splits at FNM as well as a 2nd place finish at the M15 Gameday (thankfully, the playmat was pretty lame). Perhaps the most fun part of this deck (besides using Biodriver into Hornet Queen as a regular win con) is getting to carry around a gigantic stack of seemingly random tokens.

DORKS

Elvish Mystic: Hits 3-drops on turn 2, and isn't even a horrible topdeck late with the Biodriver bros around.

Sylvan Caryatid: As much as I want to run Kiora's Follower due to Biodriver synergies, the Catyatid is too good to pass up in this 3 color deck.

TOKENSSSSS

Goblin Rabblemaster: The bread and butter. Provides a token every turn for Biodriving while being a huge threat by himself.

Hornet Nest: Aka the Jank Bomb. Fight something big with Domri Rade and Biodrivers (including your own stuff) and watch as giant Mutant Insects come springing hastily.

Hornet Queen: The finisher. A simple Biodriver and Her Majesty make a pretty disgusting 2-card combo.

Xenagos, the Reveler: Makes dudes for Biodriving and ramps insanely for ridiculous combo plays. The only reason there aren't 4 is because of the number of 4-drops.

PUMPS, CARDS & TRICKS

Domri Rade: Card advantage. Removal. And somehow I find a way to make it feel janky. Gimme 4.

Genesis Hydra: A 2-for-1. Cast at X=4, there is a ~95% chance of hitting something. If that thing happens to be a Biodriver, he can take full advantage thanks to the casting trigger.

Simic Charm: Protects all permanents, the Giant Growth can have some nice janky Biomancer applications, and the bounce can also get its jank on with Genesis Hydra and Hornet Queen.

Ghor-Clan Rampager: Basically a kill spell in creature form. Works particularly well with Goblin Rabblemaster, and of course Biodaddy. Oh ya, he's a creature too in case you need one.

SIDE

Chasm Skulker: Amazing with Biomancer and a threat on its own against Esper or some of the BUG Walkers decks that have been popping up.

Curse of the Swine: Awesome here against midrange fatties. In one fell swoop, you can turn the opponent's best threats into 2/2 Boars, which are easily outmatched when you turn your own dorks and little tokens into Biodriven Boars.

AEtherspouts: Amazing answer for aggro like Rabble Red. Mana dorks make it playable on turn 3 or 4.

Pit Fight: Comes in alongside the additional Hornet Nests against non-Black aggro or Green midrange. Sometimes you gotta force the issue if you want 5/3 flying hasty Insects.

Mizzium Mortars: 8 mana dorks and Xenagos, the Reveler make this easily Overloadable.

Negate: MBD, Esper, Burn, Walker decks, etc. Noncreature spells are kind of a thing.
