The concept of using Heartless Summoning to toss out some of the big scary Rakdos creatures is definitely a great idea!! +1

Maybe considered playing Rakdos, Lord of Riots

Still throwing a ton of cards up, really anything that may be useful, I'll be tinkering with and updating it until it turns into something playable. Really leaning towards dragons at the moment, and having a tough call between Jund R/G/B or just B/R... decisions decisions.

I was playtesting my Don't Feed The Trolls deck against this one, and I really like this deck! Using Heartless Summoning on the big Rakdos creatures is genius, I'd look into any of their big Unleash ones, as they come out with an extra +1/+1 but can't block, nullifying the enchantments reduction. I think Carnival Hellsteed was one of the big creatures with Unleash they may work well in this deck.

Also, your early game burn and creature removal was a pain in the ass. +1 for sure!

Maybe toss in some Vexing Devil for pre-Heartless Summoning turn one drops. Yes the enchantment's mana reduction wouldn't do them anygood, they'd still be effective for 1 mana even with the -1/-1

I'd consider Vexing Devil since it often turns out to be a 1 mana for 4 damage spell, one thing I'm trying to be wary of though is keeping my creatures airborne so I can use Magmaquake as a board wipe without suffering drawbacks. Currently the only creature in the deck without flying is Charmbreaker Devils . Glad you like the setup.

Utvara Hellkite is a pretty cool card as well, a 6/6 flyer for 8 mana that gives me a 6/6 dragon token anytime a dragon attacks. If I choose to lean on that ability, Furnace Whelp might be a cheaper creature for me to consider.

Drop both Bump in the Night and add two more Dreadbore

Thanks Shabobi, I will definately do that if the budget allows (I try to keep all my decks under a $100 budget). If not, I'll probably drop them in favor of a 4th Murder and Pillar of Flame .

How do you find the deck's consistency and predictability? I see a lot of 1-ofs and 2-ofs in the deck.

September 27, 2012 4:06 p.m.

Consistency has it's ups and downs. I can keep most aggressive decks at bay with removal for at least 4-5 turns, and as long as I have a heartless summoning, there can be a fatty on my side as early as turn 3. I had one play test that had a decent looking opening hand, with Heartless Summoning , decent removal, and plenty of land -- that turned into 15 turns of defense before I drew into my first creature. I'm still tinkering with the creatures to find the best ones, Archwing Dragon has been pretty good so far and has great synergy with Utvara Hellkite so I may increase those and add another Bloodgift Demon .

Most of the 1 ofs are rares that may go up or down depending on budget/availability, and many of the 2 ofs are cards I'm still testing to see how they feel. Thanks for checking it out!

Considering Frites as a way to up the temp. Faithless Looting + Unburial Rites may have to spring for some dual lands to make the flashback possible. tempting tempting.

Nice. Good idea.

September 27, 2012 5:28 p.m.

I like the deck but what i would add is the new carnival hellsteax over the imp with first strike and haste he seems a better fit for the deck also fling is always fun especially when u use it with charmbreaker devil play a couple of cheap spells and fling the beast lol i think u should also add 1 more lord of chaos considering he is a beast and over heartless summoning he doesnt make things smaller and if u like dragons utilize balefire dragon he swings and wipes ir opponents field and if u use heartless i guess the moonveil dragon can make up the difference other than that seems solid i like it. +1 from me

September 27, 2012 7:37 p.m.

I have Balefire Dragon on the sideboard at the moment based solely on his casting cost, but I will definitely be testing his viability. I opted against using Moonveil Dragon due to the triple red in the casting cost, dealing with dual red and black is enough an issue. Carnival Hellsteed has good potential, and depending on how well the deck plays out using Magmaquake he may get an opportunity to be played. Fling is something I value the power of, but have difficulty finding a place for in the deck. Thanks for the comments and suggestions!

Oh also being u may use the hellstead undying evil fling him and when he comes into play after the undying evil then unleash him giving 2 +1/+1 counter one from unleash and one from the undying its a sick combo so the first time playing him dont unleash him yet... After ya give him undying then fling him then unleash him ur opponents will be upset... And ya moonveil being 3 red is painful just was thinking on ways to make up the difference from the heartless there is also the curse of stalked prey that can make up the difference.

Considering Olivia Voldaren as an additional control condition. She'd be cheap w/ Heartless Summoning out and give me something to do with unused mana in late games. Thoughts?

October 3, 2012 11:37 a.m.

Hell ya Olivia is awesome and she can pump herself up too, Oliva Rocks, i agree with her.

I agree Olivia Voldaren would be an awesome choice in this deck. Dropping her third turn would make it easy to start picking off creatures and growing her big.

I really digg this deck. I Love HS decks, the looting and animating in this gives it a HS a much needed secondary way to cast your creatures.

Have you considered using Deathrite Shaman ? I do see the a conflict with Magmaquake and him because he is a creature you kinda wanna keep, but none the less he cost 1 mana and is expendable!

BREAK DOWN

Deathrite Shaman will do a few things for this deck that are great while still surviving the -1/-1 of Heartless Summoning .. Coincidence?

  • He ramps you ANY COLOR mana with any land you may discard! You could even swap Transguild Promenade with Evolving Wilds . Very efficient seeing as Transguild comes in tapped anyhow and you have to pay a mana to keep it. Evolving Wilds will cost nothing to keep and still come it tapped while putting a land in your graveyard for Deathrite Shaman to consume.
  • He exiles things! He deals 2 damage to your opponent! He can heal you for 2! Woa!?! ( Note: Deathrite Shaman can target your opponents graveyard as well, so he is that much more versatile and offensive with his exile targets)
He can easily replicate a Birds of Paradise feel in a deck like this deck while bringing some uber burn and controlling your opponents graveyard !

Bye Bye undying creatures... "Whats a Gravecrawler ?" See you later cards with flashback!... Snapcaster Mage who?

I think this guy is a must in this deck.

I would also go as far to say Liliana of the Veil deserves a 1 of spot in here. She is a solid removal and and a pretty sweet engine for animating.Cheers

What do you guys think of card:Rakdos's Return in this deck? It could provide some card advantage, and a way to spend any extra mana you may have? Sorry if this card seems way off, i am new to the game, but I do really enjoy this deck!

January 24, 2013 6:16 p.m.

I'm a fan of card:Rakdos's Return. It would be much better than Duress late game, the big question is what to drop to add it in. So far in playtesting, this deck seems to fall flat to aggro, because it can't keep up. I've been in a lull till Gatecrash, then maybe I can add something to freshen this deck up.
