Reworked to focus on deathtouch —March 9, 2017
I playtested and playtested, and I finally decided that the deathtouch + Clear Shot combo is really the direction needed for this deck. Clear Shot is the only instant-speed card of it's kind of which I am aware, but there are two sorcery speed cards that effectively do the same thing: Nature's Way and Rabid Bite. Nature's Way is the better of the two in that it also grants my creatures vigilance and trample for the exact same converted mana cost of .
I also incorporated Aether Poisoner as an additional deathtouch creature. To make room, I rather grudgingly had to give up Yahenni, Undying Partisan, one of my favorite cards in Aether Revolt. I also took out Rishkar, Peema Renegade, which I added only earlier this week. I like the ability of both of these creatures to get/give counters, but, ultimately, I think the deathtouch options are best.
Vehicles were also a major casualty of the deck realignment. The first version of this deck had 9 (!!) vehicles. That was too many, but fun to play. Eventually I trimmed that down to 4 vehicles, and now it sits at 1. I may bring a couple of vehicles back, and I did move Untethered Express to the sideboard, but only as a 1 of.
I think that this deck will be quite competitive and will surprise people. In some recent playtests, I beat the B/G "mirror" far more often than I lost. I think that is a good sign.
