I decided to make my own homemade deck for standard. My original plan was to use Vraska, relic seeker for a deck since I got her in pre-release, but I did not like much of what B/G has to offer. Until I realized that -1/-1 counters are a thing. I already have any of the pieces. I knew for sure Hapatra and nest of scarabs had to be in it.
Festering mummy is a great one drop as he can help me get started or at the very least kill many other 1 and 2 drop creatures. I needed a creature to help stall the board a bit or to be aggressive with and gain life on top of it. Gifted Aetherborn is an awesome card. No complaints other than the fact that he's vulnerable to Push but hey, you can't have it all right? Then there is Yahenni my bomb. I am able to produce tokens so easy that she's practically always gonna be indestructible. Plus if I play torment of hailfire with yahenni, here power jumps up so high it's ridiculous. Then obviously the deck is built around Hapatra. Obelisk spider is such an underrated card. Sure he's just a 1/4 but his job isn't offense it's defense. The fact that he has reach helps very much against fliers of any kind. The 4 toughness helps I'm defense and against cards like sweltering sun's etc. Then if you get hit with that one power then your boi better be ready for a -1/-1 counter.
Vraska is such a versatile card in this deck. It's so easy to get her ultimate that basically If you have any sort of lead that you're almost guaranteed a win. Vraska's ability to defend her self by destroying almost anything and creating 2/2 pirates with menace. Those pirates having menace is a game changer. There have been times where one Pirate and her ultimate won me the game.
My instants consist of splendid agony and torment of venom. Torment of venom is useful because depending on the game they may need to sacrifice a permanent to not die. Sorceries are torment of hailfire. Torment of hailfire is great when your back is against the wall and you're top decking with tons of mana. As it can outright win you the game if you can get x high enough. A great emergency or game ender.Also helps set up Yahenni when the game kinda stalls. Gets her up there in power.
Sideboard. 3 copies of appetite for the unnatural. They are great against vehicles and the fact they can destroy geargulks are awesome too. Plus there are a few cards like authority of the consuls and curses that greatly hurt my deck. 4 fatal pushes you small creatures like that ranumap red deck or any weenies deck. 3 Vraska's contempt for planeswalkers and god's. 1 bony's last reckoning for when my back is against the wall against a quicker deck. And 4 copies of stress for control or burn.
My biggest thing is figuring out my sideboard. I feel like most of it is a solid but any help to make it better is greatly appreciated.
