Commander / EDH Mono-Green

Jmax13

Goreclaw is one mean bear.

As a 4/3 for 4, she is already a pretty good rate. Add in the fact that she makes all of our other ferocious creatures (power 4 or greater) cost 2 less and the fact that she provides +1/+1 and trample, and you have yourself the leader of a powerful mono green fighting force.

It's a given that this deck wants high power creatures. However, I approached this deck with two main objectives.

1) I want to have as many ways to interact with the board as possible

2) I want to draw as many cards as possible to stay ahead on resources.

With that in mind, I built this deck.

C-c-c-combo!

The deck does feature certain combos, as these are often needed for a beatdown deck to win the game. Most of these combos revolve around Temur Sabertooth and Cloudstone Curio.

This start's by going infinite on mana. We have a few ways of doing this.

this is easiest with Selvala, Heart of the Wilds or Karametra's Acolyte, but is possible with Voyaging Satyr and Priest of Titania

Because of our commanders cost reduction, we have cards all the way up to the 3 drop slot that can be cast for 1 mana, making this more efficient.

Of course, both of these combos above can be done without our commander on the battlefield, they just become two mana more inefficient.

This game plan is especially nice because it also results in infinitely big creatures as a side effect that our commander can give trample. Not a bad way to close the game with a swing.

All of these creatures by some way or another can generate infinite mana via the untap from the mantle. Acolyte needs devotion, selvala needs power, priests needs elves, satyr need cradle or nykthos. But they all work.

Now, what the heck do we do with all that mana? Well, I'll tell you.

Winning the Game

  • Kamahl, Fist of Krosa. Just him. He can animate your lands and then turn them into infinitely big trampling beaters.

  • Rhonas the Indomitable or Nylea, God of the Hunt can serve as an outlet, providing you a creature for each opponent you wish to defeat.

  • Temur Sabertooth/Cloudstone Curio + any etb or cast effect creature. I'll let you figure out which ones you like. Among them we can put infinite 1/1 counters, tutor all creatures out of our deck, exile all artifacts, exile all enchantments, exile all lands, destroy all flyers, bring all of our creatures out of our graveyard, fight all creatures below 5 power, and draw our whole deck.

Let your imagination guide you. Bear in mind that Bramble Sovereign will let you get infinite tokens of any non legendary creatures that etb, letting you abuse their effects so long as you can bounce the original.

If none of these things work out for you, there is always the back-up plan.

Beat Down

So that's that! I was tempted to make this deck much more mean, and it can be done, but I decided to go with a more 75% build that was strong but still fun to play against.

Let me know what you think. This deck is still under construction and will be getting some changes as time goes on. Results with this deck have been very good so far. It has a lot more going on than your typical green creature deck and has tons of counter play with your opponent. Let me know what you think.
