Battlefield Thaumaturge is a minor tricksy boy with some neat combos you can cobble together. My favourite might be Profane Command - give every creature in play (your's and your opponent's!) Fear and it makes the other effect of your choice hitch a ride on the discount. Seven creatures in play? Make your opponent lose seven life, or give a creature -7/-7, all for ! Note that since the Fear-granting ability reads "up to," you're still permitted to pay more mana into the Command than there are creatures in play in order to pump up the other effect of your choice.

Curse of the Swine, Barrin's Spite and Curtains' Call likewise get a major discount by their multi-targeting nature, and Baral, Chief of Compliance can help cheapen your spells further.

Since you're skimping on some pretty big costs, Metallurgic Summonings gets you huge tokens even if you aren't paying full price. Profane Command earns you a creature the size of the number of creatures in play plus two for only two mana, for instance. God-Eternal Kefnet is a fat flyer who also can help you play spells more cheaply and even allows for Metallurgic Summonings to run double duty on every spell you draw.
