Battle of the Brews - Spike's Atraxa

Commander / EDH

BakingwithBacon

This deck was created by Cameron from the Laboratory Maniacs in the r/budgetrews column of reddit. It was originally designed for a sub $75 budget but as we intend on including Thrasios, Triton Hero in our main board it ends up being slightly more but still under a $100 budget not including Atraxa.

We are playing the Xerox shuffle hulk deck with Atraxa, Praetors' Voice at the helm so as to accommodate for the Trinisphere's Battle of the Brews Challenge.

I was delighted when I stumbled across this list when scouring the internet for a well suited 'Witch-Maw' build that would represent mine and my fellow Spike's desire to win. I needed a deck that was on the surface both competitve and consistent, however I couldnt rely on tutors as I want to make sure our Timmy and Johnny have a chance at winning. As a result of using less tutors we are instead running a suite of card slection spells that will help us churn through our deck and find both early game mana fixing and late game gas.

The main way we are trying to win is by assembling the Flash + Protean Hulk combo. Breaking it down, Flash lets us put a Protean Hulk into play from our hand and also sacrifices it giving us access to pull creatures with a collective converted mana cost of 6 from our library and put them onto the battlefield. We will search for Cephalid Illusionist , Nomads en-Kor , Viscera Seer / Carrion Feeder , and Zulaport Cutthroat . The first two pieces of the aforementioned combo let us mill our entire library into our graveyard, as we mill Narcomoeba will be put into play and we can sacrifice it to one of our outlets and in turn drain each of our opponents for 1 with our Zulaport Cutthroat . This loop will continue infinitely as we will hit either an Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre or a Gaea's Blessing to shuffle our graveyard back into our library and slowly drain our opponents to death.

I believe that this is a great starting option for anyone interested in getting into cEDH on a budget.
