Maybeboard

Bardic Knowledge:

Been wanting to create a deck with Yisan Chord for a while; he just seems like hed be a lot of fun to play with. The general idea is to use Yisan either to search for tools in the toolbox or to set up the board for a turn 6-8 explosion; hes great at adapting the deck to cards in hand and the opponents across from you.

In reality Yisan is pretty slow and isnt likely to be the biggest threat on the board (at least in a multiplayer game) at any given time, but protection is still important. Thusly:

-Sylvan Safekeeper: Should almost always be first pick with yisan; instant hexproof for a price

-Swiftfoot Boots, Darksteel Plate, Bear Umbra, Asceticism, Vigor, Soul of New Phyrexia and Archetype of Endurance all provide some field effect that can help Yisan keep going and protect board state

Yisan and the board are still very vulnerable to board wipe however... this should be fixed

Answers to be tutored include:

-Phyrexian Revoker

-Reclamation Sage

-Acidic Slime

-Brutalizer Exarch

-Steel Hellkite (serves as a ratchet bomb type board wipe)

-Terastodon

-Duplicant

Hall of Gemstone, and Primal Command cant be tutored but are still good for messing with problematic players.

Yisan board setup summon lines might look like these

Quick Ramp (T7 madness):

t3 Yisan Chord -> t4 Sylvan Safekeeper -> t5 Seeker of Skybreak -> t6 Karametra's Acolyte & Fierce Empath (Regal Force)-> t7 Seedborn Muse

If left untouched, this results in a serious amount of mana and a lot of cards in hand on turn 7; being able to play through everyone else's turn is gravy. Very fragile though...

Slow Cheat:

t3 Yisan Chord -> t4 Sylvan Safekeeper -> t5 Fauna Shaman -> t6 Fierce Empath (Regal Force) & Discard to tutor Seeker of Skybreak if possible -> t7 Elvish Piper & Seedborn Muse & Discard if possible for something cool -> t8 Piper things onto field

Still fragile, might fly under the radar a bit more...

Destroy the Things & Make Friends:

t3 Yisan Chord -> t4 Sylvan Safekeeper -> t5 Seeker of Skybreak -> t6 reclaimation sage & Roaring Primadox -> t7 Acidic Slime & Brutalizer Exarch & Return Reclaimation Sage to Hand -> advance to something CM7 & Terastodon

Magewright's Stone, Illusionist's Bracers, Seeker of Skybreak, Thousand-Year Elixir, and Seedborn Muse serve to speed these processes up.

Other Stuff:

-Ferropede can be used to control Yisan somewhat or as an additional answer

-Karametra's Acolyte, along with untap effects, provides for some stupid powerful ramp. Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx, Extraplanar Lens, mana dorks and ramp spells, and Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger can help as well.

-Tutor effects mostly take care of card advantage needs, but some card draw is needed. Sylvan Library, Garruk, Primal Hunter, Soul of the Harvest, and Regal Force help here.

-While Yisan is a nice tutor (at instant speed!), hes not the only one in the deck; Fauna Shaman, Genesis Hydra, Green Sun's Zenith, Wild Pair, Fierce Empath, and Brutalizer Exarch all help find specific answers. Panglacial Wurm is a fun card that works with these search effects, and with the acolyte, its not hard just to slap down.

-Mimic Vat and Soul Foundry can be fun, and along with Conjurer's Closet they help take advantage of some of those juicy enter the battlefield effects.

-Bow of Nylea can cycle back in some of those cards for more tutuors

-The rest of the cards are there simply because they are good or fun; Everyone likes hydras to the face!

Id definitely appreciate any input. It seems to work well in playtest, but itll be a while before I can put the deck together, so unfortunately it wont be receiving any actual tests any time soon.

Thanks to the many great ideas from /u/42x42 and the members of /r/EDH!

Edit: Added in a bit of ramp; hopefully that makes the curve more reliable. Thinking about adding in something to cycle more cards from the graveyard into the library as well... have to play around with it.

Updates Add

I've done a little playing around, and found some things that work as well as some things that don't.

Cards that underperform:

-- Panglacial Wurm... It seems great, what with the huge body and the ability to pull it out almost at will, but in practice it's turned out to be pretty much superfluous. By the time I can pull it out, I have enough tutor to get other things I want more; a big body just isn't enough to get by in this deck.

--Ferropede... Either Yisan gets big enough that I have the mana, card draw, and tutor to do anything I want without him, or he doesn't get big enough to make use of Ferropede. It seems like the ability to finesse counters would be nice, but it's usually unecessary.

--Lotus Cobra... It has a place in many decks, but not really this one. I need land to fuel protection, and dorks that tap can be combo'd with, but I have few ways to really take advantage of land drops. In the situations where I might see some synergy (temp, scapeshift, or collective voyage), I either already have enough mana, or don't have much interesting to do with it.

Upgrades:

--Chord of Calling for Green Sun's Zenith... The extra mana cost isn't a problem, and the instant speed is amazing

--Wirewood Lodge for Forest... Can't believe I didn't notice it before

Adding In:

--Yeva, Nature's Herald... Putting this back in, should make other peoples turns more interesting

--Gurzigost... I could use another way of cycling stuff back from my graveyard, and once it's in my deck, it's often as good as in my hand. The deal damage directly bit is gravy, and the body is decent.

--Patron of the Orochi... Do I really need another untap effect? Probably not. It's worth seeing how this acts in the deck though.

Cards I'm thinking about:

Umbral Mantle, Quest for Renewal, Rings of Brighthearth

On a side note, I have no idea how I missed that Illusionist's Bracers form an infinite mana combo with Seeker of Skybreak and the Acolyte or any of the dorks (also Mossbridge Troll gets infinitely big as well)... Umbral Mantle and Rings of Brighthearth would both do that with the Acolyte and Seeker of Skybreak as well.

This does leave the 7 drop slot looking a little threadbare... I'll have to see what I'm missing in that range

Off for more playtesting
