Merfolk combo's, midrange. It's been quite consistent, full engine going by turn 5-6 without aether vial on my playtests.

I have been trying to make bant merfolk work in standard as of late, (fingers crossed we get some new tricks for that in the next expansion with Simic and Azorius!!!). I wanted to make a Kumena control sorta deck, and while I have been able to re-create the token generation base, I have not succeeded in finding any further tap synergy with Kumena. Except, of course, in modern. In modern we have wonderful tools for tapping creatures. Even better, we have Merfolk that do stuff when we tap them, with or without Kumena! So, throw them all together in to a pile, give them some untap/tap engines, throw in a land base, and watch them go!

Current considerations:

-3x Freed from the Real +2x Presence of Gond (or preferably a cheaper tap engine like paradise mantle)

Slight Revision

Swapped 2x Path to Exile in sideboard for 2x Tamiyo, the Moon Sage. While Intruder Alarm has clashes absolutely terribly with Tamiyo, my sideboard focuses heavily on control/hate, and not so much on the merfolk tribal.

I'm definitely wondering if sideboarding out a couple alarms for 2x Tamiyo during control/boardwipe-y matchups (or ones that break my combo's too much to stick to just the combo mainboard) is decent? Tapping a full board of merfolk from stonybrooks and filling your hand up for massive card advantage seems extremely good for finding answers to your opponents next turn. Let me know what you think!
