The Theme I love instant speed magic. I am trying to see if I can build a flash based deck that can survive the modern meta.

Seeing how Bant Soulherder seems to be a thing, and how the flash deck utilizes creatures with ETB effects, I'm trying to jam these two ideas together - Bant Flash-herder if you will.

The game plan

• Survive, with blocking creatures like Coiling Oracle and Path to Exile. Flashing in an Ice-Fang Coatl can be useful, especially if meeting the deathtouch condition

• Tempo the opponent out with Remand, Spell Queller and Venser, Shaper Savant. Venser is especially irritating to the opponent as it can target spells and permanents, for example key lands, key threats, nasty spells, while out-valuing the opponent

• Abuse Soulherder to generate value from ETB effects. Alternatively, Ephemerate can generate good value - especially with Eternal Witness to pick up your, for example, Path to Exile, and then to recover Ephemerate on the rebound trigger

• Close the game with Restoration Angel and/or Soulherder.

Potential win conditions as I see them

• Venser, Shaper Savant flickers - Attack the opponents board presence

• Soulherder for inevitability

• Restoration Angel as an evasive beater. This also synergises fantastically with Soulherder, as you get two flickers per soulherder per endstep, which really accelerates the inevitability

• Pierce Strider flickers - 3 damage per ETB. It coul

• Soulherder + Time Warp + Eternal Witness + lock

Maybeboard The Maybeboard list is both the ideas I've so far trimmed away and some potential ideas from which a sideboard could potentially be found

• Creatures that might yet snatch a place from the main list

• A tonne of 3 mana flash creatures that interfere with the Soulherder curve

• A Wilderness Reclamation + Sphinx's Revelation + Secure the Wastes a-la SaffronOlives Bant Flash on a budget

• Non flash creatures that otherwise might be a very good fit

• Other ideas that have fallen to the wayside

Early game

Simply put, I think there are several possibilities. I prefer Opt, because instant speed, but I am open to change if there is a glaring improvement to make.

• Digging with Serum Visions as a replacement for Opt, allowing to dig one card further, but at sorcery speed

• Ramping with Arbor Elf, Arboreal Grazer, or Gilded Goose. This seems to work well alongside a Growth Spiral to try to ramp to 5 lands on turn 3, allowing a Soulherder on turn 2, or turn 3 and with added protection. Also with Arboreal Grazer + Eternal Witness, it feels as though there is a good opportunity to keep a steady stream of lands going, by recovering fetchlands

• Slowing opponent down with Judge's Familiar - also a frequent threat of punishment against tapping out

Conclusion I have very little idea how to competently build a deck - call me a Timmy if you will, but in playtesting, this idea does seem to offer a fairly decent performance. Please offer some feedback to make this idea somehow not totally bomb in Modern? Which ideas are weakest? Which are most worth following? Any help is appreciated.

I am fixated on the soulherder + etb effects + instant speed, so outside of the Eternal Witness / Soulherder package, and extremely useful sideboard cards, I'm not too interested in sorcery speed options, unless mind-blowing. I've also added Coiling Oracle to the non-flash ideas, as an experiement, based on feedback that it really is a fantastic card in the Soulherder package
