Bant Dragon Control - Let the fun begin!

Unformat* Control Dragons GWU (Bant)

Maikeruu

Sideboard

Testing out a different style of a dragon deck. Bant control. Midrange / dragon synergy between all the dragons and scorn, with other cool features such as the advocate with lumbering falls making it a 5/5 hexproof creature lategame, aswell as being able to get a 4/5 back with ojutai's command later in the game. Deck is in progress, may change slightly - this is a first draft that has been only slightly tweaked so far.

will give a write up of all the cards and my choices for them and their numbers once I have fully tested / tweaked the deck to iron out issues.

Card choices so far, and reasons for them:

4x Ojutai's Command - This card.. Literally one of my favourite magic cards right now in standard, especially when you run a deck that has a value 2-drop like Sylvan Advocate . This command has every mode being useful. Gaining 4 life is the difference between life and death against some decks. Not only aggro decks, but also decks that run things such as Siege Rhino the command can bring you out of 3 life drain death range. The counter is amazing for obvious reasons and returning a sylvan advocate from the graveyard to the battlefield can win you the game outright, blocking with a 4/5 out of nowhere then next turn swinging with it + a 5/5 hexproof manland for 9 damage. Yes please.

4x Dragonlord Ojutai - What would the command be without the dragon itself? This 5/4 hexproof anticipating monster has been iconic in standard for a long time for obvious reasons, pushing you further ahead if you are in the drivers seat. It helps out when you're behind with an anticipate to dig or even as a 5/4 hexproof blocker. All ontop of the fact that this creature is a dragon in a dragon deck that runs Silumgar's Scorn and Haven of the Spirit Dragon.

2x Dragonlord Dromoka - This card is great, just a little expensive to run too many 6-drops in this deck. Having 4 awesome 6-drops total seems great. This dragonlord can be backbreaking against control because of the fact he cant be countered, and against aggro because of the lifelink. Either way this giant body to block with never hurts to see hit the battlefield, which it's garenteed to do!

4x Silumgar's Scorn - We need a counterspell that can hit anything pre-sideboard, so we can counter those annoying spells like Collected Company, Chandra, Flamecaller, Rally the Ancestors and things alike. This card is just great, the amount of dragons we run (7) lets us typically near always have a dragon ready to reveal if they leave a mana or 2 up after casting their spell. On the play counting their turn 2 jace, advocate, rattleclaw or soulfire etc with this card can literally shift the whole game in your favour it's unreal.

4x Sylvan Advocate - This card is a monster! a 2/3 early that can stop aggro in their tracks while attacking with vigilance, only to get stronger and made into a 4/5 on turn 6 (most of the time) and dominating the board, pair this with the 4x lumbering falls to make them 5/5 hexproofs and the 4x ojutai's commands to bring a kill potential out of the blue the turn after or to allow you to bring back a 4/5 to block with and catching them completely off-guard. Absolute nuts.

2x Icefall Regent - This card is pretty neat. Not only does it tap one of the opponents creatures for the duration of it being on the battlefield, giving you time to search for an answer to it or save yourself some life total - it also makes them removing it very demanding on their mana. Spells costing 2 mana more to target this card is no joke. Solid 5-drop but not quite as good as ojutai, so I just cant fit 4 into the deck.

1x Linvala, the Preserver - This card is nuts against nearly all decks when you're caught in a tight spot. 5 life gain is great alongside a 5/5 flyer for 6 mana, but if you can get a 2nd body of a 3/3 flyer too for the same cost - this card just becomes insane. You can change the tides of a game simply playing this card and making the board stop dead in its tracks with these bodies and take you out of any burn range you may have been in. Again being a 6-drop we need to be careful about the amount of these we play, but having useful 1-of's in the deck is always great for us when we see them and causes the opponent for be aware of these in our deck and maybe think we have more than just 1, making them hesitant in their choices the next game.
