Thanks to all who helped out with my deck in terms of coming up with extra counterspells, etc. Cleared the chat as well.

it would be much, much wiser to have x4 of the Battle of wits to increase your odds! Otherwise, it's a funny deck that might just be dumb enough to work.

@egallyg - The format that it's in is called Noble, in which you can only have one rare (that acts as a commander but it can be a land, sorcery, artifact, etc.) and four uncommons, and the rest have to be commons. If I could, I would but the format doesn't allow it. Thanks for looking!

you could probably up your deck's amount of cards.

you'll want solutions to everything they do, and if you can stall long enough you'll generally want to play Battle of Wits with counter magic mana held open, because if they have a destroy effect before your upkeep your deck will flop.

I feel like you could find a better uncommon than Fog Bank , Syncopate , Dissolve , Guard Gomazoa all seem like decent replacements.

you could also add Broken Ambitions , Condescend , Cursecatcher , Disrupt , Force Spike , Power Sink , Syncopate had a common printing, Turn Aside saves battle for U, Arcane Denial , Daze , Deprive ....

basically, dying before turn 6 isn't too likely, especially if you hit into one or two of your easily disposable creatures. but keeping on until turn 7 or 8 so you can leave mana open to keep Battle of Wits safe would be very good. granted, only relevant against things with white and green in them, it might be good to do.

i would recommend 4x Feldon's Cane and 4x Put Away for the graveyard shuffling effects. Both have been printed at the common level.

This is just hilarious.

To answer your question: Yes, 240 should be fine. You'll theoretically win by turn 6 and even if your opponent mills 5 cards per turn Tome Scour Mind Sculpt etc. you'll still be above 200.

For a gimmick deck like this I'd say strip everything except Battle of Wits , lands, and counterspells. You run the risk of being hardcore mana-locked with 119 cards that aren't land. Mulligan until you have at least 1 form of counterspell and play until you can drop Battle of Wits and protect him until the win-con. That way the only real risks you face are speed and counterspell decks.

Good deck overall and clever concept +1

Thanks for the tips - I can't believe that I forgot Storm Crow . Duh. I think I'm going to lean away from Fact or Fiction because I need counterspells to take away the risk of losing Battle of Wits.

The deck is for the Noble format. its like pauper except you are allowed a playset of one rare card. It makes things fun.

haynienhoj no you are allowed up to 4 uncommons and only 1 rare or mythic.

Do you think the elixir is better than Cursecatcher, which makes sure Battle of Wits can't be countered?

Judge's Familiar as a better cursecatcher? or the same color-restraints as commander?

also any of the like Spiketail Hatchling work

August 13, 2014 11:27 a.m.

I second Spiketail Hatchling as it was printed as a common at one time, so why the hell not? Also Martyr of Frost and Spiketail Drakeling would fit the bill. +1 for the cool gimmick. Check out my gimmick noble deck: Noble Urborg - What the FRACK?! [Drillin' for Oil]
