Azorius (Post)Standard Control

Modern Control W/U (Azorius)

slusken Score: 2

WiP Standard deck. Since I scrapped my Spirit Delver deck (mainly cause my friends told me to make a real Standard deck) I had some cards and lands to create a nice U/W control deck, since U/W is my favourite combination.

The deck is basically a control deck, keep the opponent locked down with Terminus and Supreme Verdict until you miracle a Entreat the Angels , get a Angel of Serenity or beat em up with AEtherling .

There is also card draw in the form of Azorius Charm (which is more cycling, but still lets you cast miracles on the opponents turn), Think Twice and of course Sphinx's Revelation .

I really like this deck, since you always seem to be ahead of your opponents (unless they also play control).

1-1-2 Casual Monday Magic — May 27, 2013

Played at a local Monday event with a standard 4 round swiss, and it went... pretty ok, I guess, since my Sideboard was pretty non-existent.

First match : Jund, lost 0-2. After getting mana screwed game one, he managed to get game 2 thanks to Sire Of Insanity and a lot of Huntmaster of the Fells  Flip and Olivia Voldaren . I had no chance against this matchup...

Second match : White angel/human deck, won 2-0 Nothing special to say, after turn four, I managed to turn the game around in my favor both games (thank you Supreme Verdict and Terminus !), but he managed to get me down to around 3 life left both games.

Third match : Maze deck, draw 1-1 After a quick win for me game 1, he managed to stall me and collect gates with 3 Maze's End which ended the game quickly. He managed to hold out long enough in game 3 for the round to end before i got to kill him... too bad, since he had about 2 rounds left before he would have lost.

Fourth match : Esper, lost 1-2 I had a very lucky first game, since he got mana screwed and I managed to miracle an Entreat the Angels on turn four, which kept on bashing in. In Game 2 and 3 however, he out-controlled me totally and milled me out both times.

It was really fun, and Ive tweaked the sideboard a bit and replaced some cards in the deck.

Looks the kind of deck I'd hate to play against. Though I am a creature based aggro player so...I suppose that is a good sign. +1 I suppose. A win con that could be good is Divine Deflection and a card possible worth getting hold of is Snapcaster Mage ?

Im glad you like it :)

Yeah, Ive considered buying Snapcaster Mage and Geist of Saint Traft ,

But it seems like a waste, since innistrad is rotating out soon.

Ill keep Divine Deflection in mind, might be good when facing some gruul aggro decks and token decks :)

Snappy yes, geist is not this deck. Snappy shouldn't loose too much as he is generally good, and remember, you have like 4 months till rotation. Make the most of having him in the deck! Just 2 would greatly increase your chances of winning. Hvae you heard of snappy beats as a wincon? It's surprisingly good! A ten turn clock if you control well :P

I like the idea of winning by beating the opponents to death with a single snappy (and some control of course) :D

If I manage to find Snapcaster Mage for a good price, I will add him to the deck

Thanks for the suggestions ! :)

I like this, I like this deck alot. I have one small complaint though; you only have 2 Detention Sphere s. One can never have too many Detention Sphere s, so I suggest you run a play set of them, because drawing one is never a bad thing.

You are certainly right about that, but I don't know which card to swap out in order for more Detention Sphere s to fit the deck, and i even got one more in my side if needed :)
