Azorius Control

Description

Trying to make a competitive detain deck. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Updates

FNM 10/26/2012 — Oct. 27, 2012

Added Glacial Fortress x4, Angel of Serenity and Angelic Overseer Went 2-1 loss first round vs Izzet, 2-1 loss second round vs Selesnya, 2-0 win vs G/U mill third round and 2-0 win vs Izzet fourth round. I could detain really well early game but I believe 2x Geist of Saint Traft would make this deck more consistent.

Any help i can give would involve my deck http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/detention-15-10-12-1/ so outside that I'm not sure. I'd drop imposters for more guildmages or throwing in the new owl counterspell instead

I was using the imposters to return the detain creatures so I could cast them again. I was thinking about putting in the owls though.

If thats why you ran imposter I would just replace it with cloudshift. Can do the same thing with the added bonuses of

doesn't require you to pay the mana for the creature a second time

can save the creature from removal at instant speed

can provide instant speed detain should you have a need for it

Shouldnt be hard with them being common :). I'd also drop the soulsworn spirits and the guild tablets for anohter justiciar and 3 more land. Without dual lands you'd probably be helped quite a bit by 2 evolving wilds and an extra island

I love control decks. I also made one for the rtr packs. This deck needs some work in order to really piss people off. First of all get rid of the Faerie Impostor 's and put in card:Conjurer's Closet because that card can be used to detain a creature every turn. Also think about some Martial Law s for a good detaining source if you have no creatures to cast defiantly add the duel cast lands to your deck. If you are only running 20 land then take out 1 Archon of the Triuverate. A 7 mana creature can be a bit expensive especially if you draw 3 on your first turn. Maybe some Sleep s or Blustersquall s for a more in depth detaining system. Finally if you want to think about Tamiyo, the Moon Sage . Look at my deck, Crap! W/U Control, for more options. Hope I helped.

@Milk__Man Thank you for the input, I am setting up a play test with 2 card:Conjurer's Closet and 2 Martial Law instead of the imposters and I am dropping down to one archon.

Arrest is not that good use Oblivion Ring remove Faerie Impostor for card:Judge's Familiar he can protect ur creatures. I agree with all above in the case of Tamiyo he would rly be good. Bu i disagree with Sleep you got a good anti creature setup so you need to throw in Cancel more then the rest

so - 2 New Prahv Guildmage -1 Azorius Arrester - 1 Archon of the Triumvirate for +2 Cancel and + 2 Martial Law and +2 Cancel and +2 cancel sideboard.

This is not an agro deck. Agro Decks try to kill the other guy before he can kill you and they have plenty of one and two drops to get in early.

Control Decks take damage until they can keep the other player from having a chance to hurt them and hope they can hold down the other player and kill them before they lose control.

Both are good strategies, choose which one fits your playstyle and go with it, trying to do both will hold you back.

If you want to use every detain creature, you're going to make this a control deck.

Either way Search Warrant is awful.

Supreme Verdict is also odd here since only the Azorius Keyrune and the Angelic Overseer can survive it. Hover Barrier has a role here, but seems out of place.

With so many high mana creatures you could use any help with acceleration and Azorius Keyrune could help you get to them a turn or two quicker.

Azorius Charm supports your card draw you have in this deck, or the life gain you have in this deck or the bounce saving/control you have in this deck. Consider it, it does everything your deck already does and lets you choose what you need a the moment.

Dissipate is always better than Cancel as it protects from flashback, scavenge, adding another card in graveyard to be counted for a creatures power/toughness, etc.

So drop the Search Warrant for Azorius Charm and the Cancel for Dissipate ? would I remove the Supreme Verdict for the Azorius Keyrune ?

I think it would definitely be worth a shot switching them out just like that. Depending on your meta game you may need big board sweeps like Supreme Verdict , but give it a shot without it and move it to the Sideboard until you need it.
