The idea of this deck is usual control, I filled the deck mainly with 3cmc threats and removals so they can get the hate so my titan can freely get in and swing away. I hope to add a couple of gideons and vensers (maybe a karn), but atm I don't own any and I don't really know what to cut >.>.
Any suggestions would be great, +1 if you like as well.
Seems a bit land heavy, especially considering you have Jace Beleren and Ponder . Right now the fetchlands are a little stuffy, because none of them work for Azorius colors . . . I guess you can still use them, it's seems a bit clunky, and they would be prettier in decks that can truly exploit them (I can tell this is an owned decklist, not a design wishlist). I'd also say that one Tectonic Edge is a total hail mary as far as actually having it when you need it, and with all of the chroma heavy other cards . . . you'll hate it most games.
Umm, Preordain is kind of a control godcard, at least it seems that way. I know you've got Ponder in there, but digging one deeper isn't quite as nice as being able to ditch the wrong cards to the bottom.
Hmmmmm. . . I'd say that Stoic Rebuttal actually metalcrafting is a bit of a pipe dream, and 4x mana leak would work better. Also, I rarely see AEther Tradewinds in these decks, but I'm pretty sure it would work with Oblivion Ring the same way that the old Journey to Nowhere /Narrow Escape combo worked. If that's the exploit you're looking for.
Overall . . . there's really too many ideas. There's no engine, no great win-con. It could be made a lot better, but you need to focus. Maybe play with exile control instead of countering, maybe go more countering, maybe find more 3cmc permanents for your Sun Titan late game (right now it's mostly instants etc that are under that curve)--but right now it would be a lot of fun to burn through jaces using -1, only to bring him back for 1UU. I'm not saying give it up, there is a lot of power here and some cool concepts, it just takes work. Finally, Wurmcoil Engine mainboard, probably above the sphinx/archivist concept. It is too good to ignore.
Hope that helps!
Yes I do hate having only 1 Tectonic Edge in this deck (I own another, but I don't want to have to dig for it), as for hating it I would have to argue against that. So far it hasn't bothered me in the playtesting I've done so far on this website. As for being land heavy remember some of the land can become creatures or land hate. Now the fetch lands are in there as a Sun Titan target. Also the land heaviness is there so I can have some consistency (and so I don't suffer from a Tectonic Edge /Surgical Extraction combo to the Glacial Fortress and become mana screwed again.
Now as for Preordain over Ponder I actually have a Preordain in the actual deck and it seems like a weaker version. I'd much rather dig through 3 packs of cards for mythics and be able to shuffle em in my friend's piles for a chance at a better stack than dig through two and put the ones I don't like on the bottom of my pile.
The Stoic Rebuttal s are there for a hard counter in the end game (which in a control vs. control round can easily get there) And since I have a few artifacts in here I figured it'd be better than Cancel .
I was debating to swap AEther Tradewinds with Into the Roil , but it's just to much fun bouncing my Oblivion Ring so that my opponent's legendary or planeswalker would meet another copy of them (which I've noticed that quite often players with such things will play a new one right after the old is removed) and also bouncing their threat titan or other wurmy win-con.
Now I do know that overall my deck is quite random in places, but like I said in my description I need to get more planeswalkers. Also as I mentioned a little bit above in this brick-o-text Sun Titan should almost always have a target with the fetch lands, in alot of playtesting I've ran into running out of my Plains and Island s in my deck while usually I only draw the non basic lands.
And the comment has helped a bit, it's allowed me to see how other's see this deck. Also what is more fun, killing your opponent with a million 1/4's or winning in one way game one and winning a different way game two?
To be sure, I'm all about winning many ways. Just check out my aptly named ally deck: deck:another-ally-another-win-condition-comment. I'm a local-meta spike, not a copy-the-best-decklist-and-slave-to-become-its-master spike. But there's enough johnnie in me to have a lot of fun too.
I just want you to have win-tastic fun with this deck, and I'm saying that even without being cookie-cutter, it can be more consistent.
:Deck updated to reflect some good pulls and trades at the M12 release.
Elspeth is in this deck more for ability to put little soldiers between her and that titan over there, and my opponent almost always has to answer that with usually more than one card (unless they're red or green...then I'm sad).
Now as for consistency I'm mostly just looking for what win con is the most fun for me, one game against a post rotation vampire deck I won by aggroing my Celestial Colonnade to some kill spells (along with some Sun Titan s) until they ran out of steam... I can't remember how I got him from the 40ish life to zero again, but it was fun.
