This is just a deck to play with friends and maybe occasionally at an FNM, but feedback is still welcome!
This is also a budget deck since i'm still kinda new so i don't wanna pay too much for things i may not like or may not work with my deck later on, but some slightly more pricey cards i guess don't hurt to suggest, as if i like this deck much i'll probably end up upgrading it in some way.
DISCLAIMER: The "Maybeboard" is full of potential cards in both main and sideboard, not just for main, not just for sideboard. Assume i intend them for sideboarding, but some might end up in my mainboard.
Things considered but not consolidated on (feedback on this is more than appreciated):
Solemn Recruit vs Bygone Bishop
The Solemn Recruit is much better against midrange decks, while the bishop helps you get through other decks that place creatures early and don't let you attack without flying. Bygone Bishop also generates tons of clues in a very passive way if you're in that kind of moment where you can't really attack. For the moment i've decided to leave Solemn Recruit in the mainboard and sideboard Bygone Bishop.
Dispel vs Turn Aside vs Negate
The reason for counterspells in the sideboard is to protect us against enemy removal spells, so here there's a big dilemma for which one to use. Dispel gets rid of most targeted aggression but still ignores things like
Dark Salvation
or boardwipes like Sweltering Suns, in that regard Turn Aside looks better, but it still ignores boardwipes and other counterspells. Negate seems much better in that regard since it gets rid of pretty much everything we need to get rid, from boardwipes, to counterspells, passing through Aetherworks Marvel but it's much harder for us to leave 2 mana up, specially when most of the key pieces of this deck require wasting blue mana constantly in early turns ( Erdwal Illuminator, Daring Sleuth
, Ongoing Investigation ) and with an average land count and without many dual lands (only due to budget).
Big changes:
Added Steadfast Cathar over
Kor Bladewhirl
for increasing the aggressiveness of the deck in its early stages, since also the difference between 1 or 2 toughness is nothing for the current standard's (used) removal.
Moved Dusk / Dawn and
Bound by Moonsilver
to the sideboard, added a playset of
Lunarch Mantle
instead.
Removed most controling cards since they were just dragging the game longer without actual providing ways to win. Deck is still tagged as Control due to a more defensive sideboard but like everything it's still held to changing.
Changed pretty much every card to an entire playset for a higher consistency but not the improvise cards since some games you may not really get enough clues to get the maximum efficiency out of them.
