"I believed in a beautiful god. But this is the true face of the Divine." -Ayli, Eternal Pilgrim

Ayli succumbs to madness and despair, sacrificing the unwary to eldrich god-monstrosities from somewhere else in the hope she will be devoured last as reward for her service. She is granted power to help her in her task; her lifeforce and power swells with each victim, and soon she begins banishing her enemies to the mad alien void.

"That is not dead which can eternal lie. And with strange aeons, even death may die." -the Necronomicon

The Eldrazi warp reality, and even death is no escape from their wrongness. Victims are sacrificed, then resurrected and sacrificed again. Exile effects send them beyond the confines of this plane, and only the will of Ayli and her alien masters determines whether the hapless fools will return. Enemies are not safe; they will all be sacrificed to the horrors from somewhere else, and will yet be made to unwillingly serve before they are finally devoured by the hungry emptiness beyond reality.

This deck owes a great deal to Xenphire of the MTGSalvation forums, and his excellent Ayli thread.

Orzhov appeals strongly to me with amazing removal and recursion capabilities. Ayli adds interesting flavor to some of my favorite effects. Many people seem to play Ayli as a lifegain deck...but this is straight-up "removal tribal." Most of the deck is devoted to some form of removal, and then recurring that removal. Ayli's second ability is nice when we get it, but her sacrifice outlet is her primary use here, letting us abuse Mangara of Korondor and similar effects. Turns out instant-speed sacrifice in the best recursion colors is pretty great. Control the board with heavy removal until we can pop out a win condition.

My favorite play is to sacrifice Academy Rector to Ayli, grab Eldrazi Conscription, and swing in for the surprise attack. People usually don't see that coming, and it's both devastating and flavorful.

The main win condition is lifedrain through Gray Merchant of Asphodel, Kokusho, the Evening Star, and Vizkopa Guildmage. I'm also testing out the Death Star, with Exquisite Blood paired with Aetherflux Reservoir. Exquisite Blood lets us immediately regain the life lost to the Death Star so we can blow up the whole table.

I'll recur Gary and Koko (and others) using Nim Deathmantle and Corpse Dance. Safer options include Eldrazi Displacer, Kaya, Ghost Assassin, and Fiend Hunter for flicker effects (Gary only unfortunately). Recursion, whether through exile-return or necromancy, is a powerful theme, not only for lifedrain with Gary or Koko, but also to rapidly remove an opponent's board via Ashen Rider, Angel of Serenity, and others.

I'm indulging myself a bit by including Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre and Eldrazi Conscription for flavor reasons. I think it suits Ayli quite well.

There's a long list of tricks in here, so I won't go over everything. But one of my favorites is Phyrexan Processor. Not a very fast card, but if it's combined with Rings of Brighthearth (and/or recent addition Anointed Procession), it quickly goes out of control, producing giant tokens every turn. Sacrifice just one to Ayli to regain all the life lost when the Processor was cast; sacrifice more to hit the magic 50 life total. Or just swing in with giant beaters.
