Welcome the #1 Ranked (at one point in time) Angel EDH deck on T/O!!!

Hello, guys and gals! Let me start off by saying thank you for clicking and looking at my Avacyn EDH deck! This is my first attempt at building an EDH deck, so there has been a pretty big learning curve. Angels were my first (and still are) my favorite creature type, so naturally my first EDH build ever would be an Angel Tribal deck. Avacyn, Angel of Hope was the first Mythic Rare I have ever pulled when I first started playing, back in the original Innistrad block. Picking her to be my first commander, was a no-brainer. Figuring out how to make her as competitive as possible, while staying within budget, was not. We're now going to get into how the deck works. Let's get to it,shall we?

Ever since I started playing MTG, I have been infatuated with Angels. So, I wanted to build an Angel deck that was easy enough for just about anyone to play/understand, but powerful enough so that I can be a threat in a pod of tuned decks. And who is the baddest Angel in the MTG multiverse? Avacyn, Angel of Hope should be the first to come to mind.

She easily oppresses the most oppressive forces! Her army of Angels are almost impossible to overcome! When she is on the battlefield, nothing or no one on her side can be destroyed! It's not just her Angels that you have to worry about. Her ground support is just as powerful as her army in the sky. Every single groundman been hand picked because they are the best at what they do. When things become too much for Avacyn and her army, she will destroy the very ground beneath her enemy's feet, denying them of a very important resource.

Let's start with what you want to see in your opening hand. You want to have at least 3 Plains after drawing your first 7 cards of the game. Sol Ring is an obvious include as well. Enlightened Tutor is good to search for that early game Mana Rock or, to look for Land Tax . If you can pull Land Tax in the first few hands, you want to purposely miss a land drop so you can go get up to 3 Plains every upkeep. You would also like to see some sort of 1 or 2 drop removal spell, like Path to Exile or Swords to Plowshares in your opening hand.

Mana is the most important aspect of this deck, as is with most EDH decks. 24 of the 34 lands are either Unstable full art Plains, or shiny full art/regular Plains. Because who doesn't love bling?! Cavern of Souls plays a big role in my deck, because it allows you to cast the big expensive cards without worry of it being removed at instant speed. I use it as much as I can to help Avacyn, Angel of Hope from getting countered, because commander tax is one of the biggest drawbacks of my commander due to her high CMC. Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx really comes in handy mid to late game, when I actually have a big board presence. Rouge's Passage allows me to pay 4 to make target creature unlockable. So I can use that in conjunction with Avacyn to get that commander damage in. This allows me to take players out and/or give me a better position in the game.

Here, I am going to be going over some of the artifacts and creatures that aren't angels. The "ground support", so to speak. Cards in this section were selected strictly for thier value and abilities they possess that help my control strategy. Grand Abolisher is probably my favorite of the creatures in this category. If I can get him out early game, especially with Greaves or Boots equipped to him, I can start the control gameplan while people are still building thier board. Bounty Agent is also another awesome early game card as well. A 2/2 with A for 2, that also can be tapped to destroy commanders has so much value! She will always have a spot in my deck, simply because her casting cost is low and her sac ability is awesome. Containment Priest was almost an auto-include from the start. She puts a stop to a lot of decks that cheat out thier commander, and decks that use a lot of graveyard recursion. The hate that Aven Mindcensor gets, is really entertaining! Everyone searches thier deck at least once, if not many more times per game. Guess what? Search the top 4 instead! Lol!

Countless hours of research and play testing have gone into this deck, so all the upvotes and views mean a lot to me! Thanks for looking!
