Introduction
I was sick of playing predictable decks and made this one with 4+ player casual FFA in mind. It can be made quite a bit cheaper (taking out the couple of expensive lands and replacing them with guild gates for example), yet the deck list stands as is because it's the physical copies I have.
The deck feels control-oriented but has decent aggro potential and does a little of everything. It's made to function in FFA games and screw everyone over with one of my favorite cards,
The Great Aurora
where ideally you benefit most due to your extra lands, replicating creatures, and card draw options.
The general jist is to ramp up via
Growth Spiral
and
Coiling Oracle
to avoid having any dead draws in the late game (a top deck of
Rampant Growth
is painful for example). Due to these cards and
Evolving Wilds
you have some decent landfall triggers for cards like
Avenger of Zendikar
and
Rampaging Baloths
which in turn fuel your psuedo-board wipe
The Great Aurora
and can be cloned via
Vizier of Many Faces
and
Progenitor Mimic
for token fun.
But the deck is not made to be predictable with each play. Hence there's only 1 copy each of the big guys.
Rather you have some fun interactions with:
-
Progenitor Mimic + Thragtusk
for pretty swell life gain and post board wipe presence.
-
Archangel Avacyn
+
Neoform
(killing one of your other creatures for something with more than 3 hp presumably), for a manual trigger of the transform.
-
Progenitor Mimic + Timestream Navigator
as potential (POTENTIAL, and very unlikely) infinite turns. Hilarious though.
-
Mist-Syndicate Naga
+
Neoform
tokens for your viziers (which then get the +1+1 and contest an opponent's creature that you're mirroring) or as a
God-Eternal Kefnet
tutor. This also lets you turn the early game-oriented nagas into something that's more useful as you pass the 6th round mark.
If your big creatures all die or if you're against a mill deck
Emergency Powers
has your back. Though this is the most situational of the cards and best used if you're vs a draw deck, or after
The Great Aurora
if you draw into it to shave a few non-land cards out of your opponents hand potentially if it's late game or if they had a strong board state before the aurora.
The deck is lacking a bit in removal, as it's reliant on its two board wipes,
End Hostilities
and
Time Wipe
but you do have access to other removal such as
Dromoka's Command
,
Incubation / Incongruity
,
Forced Landing
,
The Great Aurora
and as an especially unreliable source,
Archangel Avacyn
this leaves it vulnerable to aggro decks such as goblins.
Additional Notes:
End games with unblockables with
Venser, the Sojourner
, and grab random junk with
Karn, the Great Creator
to make everyone laugh. Or if you're not much into humor, grab
Torrential Gearhulk
or something. I don't know.
The deck can be easily changed to modern format by switching out
Impulse
with
Anticipate
, and
Forgotten Ancient
with something such as a 2nd
Managorger Hydra
or a pump creature.
There is no sideboard because I'm a bloody casual.
