Bruna, Light of Alabaster Control/Voltron hybrid.
The point here is to control/make people less interested in attacking you until you can deliver the killing blow with a massive Bruna, Light of Alabaster .
This deck has a light control and a light self mill sub-theme. I had this deck as a full Voltron deck but I found myself finding my wincons in turns 10-11. I needed a way to stay in the game 'till I could deliver the "coup de grace".
Nekusar, the Mindrazer
's Everyone gets cards!,
Krenko, Mob Boss 's Krenko's Commandos,
Omnath, Locus of Mana 's Rollover Minutes,
Sliver Overlord 's EDH? Why Not Slivers?,
Doran, the Siege Tower 's About Tree Fiddy, and
Derevi, Empyrial Tactician 's I Vant, my burd...,
Thanks for your support, suggestions, and feedback for making each of these decks what they are today.
I have decided that I need to advertise on each of my decks the things that I am looking to acquire for each deck and, if you are a trader who has what I am looking for, feel free to look at my Binder.
I am looking for suggestions.
Angelic Destiny is great but all it offers is a +4+4 boost that can return to hand, Holy Mantle makes Bruna, Light of Alabaster unblockable and since she has Vigilance a great blocker as well. The +2/+2 difference doesn't mean much because even at a 9/9 Bruna still has to make 3 swings to kill someone if Angelic Destiny is attached; Holy Mantle 's boost of +2/+2 puts Bruna's P/T at 7/7, also making 3 swings game but it has the added bonus of making her unblockable as well.
I was never getting much use out of Daybreak Coronet , oftentimes sitting in my hand until I was able to dig up another enchantment to attach to a creature. Blind Obedience is great for slowing things down a turn and giving me time to deal with them and the Extort is just an added bonus.
If you read the EDH rules you will find that: "Reminder text is not included in the colour identity of a card." - http://mtgcommander.net/rules.php. This makes any Extort able to be ran in any mono white or mono black decks. If it were printed like Ghor-Clan Rampager it wouldn't be allowed but since the B/W is in the parentheses it is ignored for the purposes of EDH.
The decks I tend to play against are Grimgrin, Corpse-Born and Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker. I wanted ways to stop the stupid amounts of tokens these decks created. So I included Guardian of the Gateless and Holy Mantle and Spirit Mantle in my Bruna deck. That one creature can now block any number of the tokens they have and my flying bruna can swing through for a lot. I also have Sphere of Safety to stop being overrun. I'd like your opinion on my build though. Bruna, Voltron Force
Don't bother with Guardian of the Gateless. It's a mediocre creature. If you need more creature stalling options, another sweeper is better. Perhaps Austere Command. There's also Dissipation Field to keep tokens off your back. As for what to drop, Journey to Nowhere is the only card I see that's an easy cut.
Hall of the Bandit Lord can be another source of haste.
@NensouHiebara The CMC on the Austere Command really puts me off, that being said I realize that I AM running quite a few large CMC spells, I'd normally make an argument about the fact that I cheat most of them out or they are part of a 2 part lock-out combo but I think you can see that. Instead I'll take your suggestion of Dissipation Field for three reasons, one it's an enchantment, two it's in my binder currently, and three at 4 cmc it is relatively cheap. My only concerns are letting them hit me in the first place and ETB abilities like Snapcaster Mage or any of the Titans but that's a job for sweepers and for counter magic on the re-entry. I appreciate the once over and if you like it feel free to check the others, they are all on par with this one for effectiveness and theme.
Azorius Charm isn't bad but I hesitate to call it "good" either. I am never missing removal so it's AEthertow ability wouldn't really be all that interesting. For card draw Think Twice is hands down better, that being said with the light self mill Visions of Beyond is better still. (Brainstorm gets an honorable mention.) Finally, the Lifelink it not needed. I have plenty of sources of Lifelink and they wouldn't stack so, meh.
I run draw over mill usually. The light self mill only includes Jace's Archivist (who also draws), Fact or Fiction (which proves to be a damned if you do/damned if you don't for most players), and Psychic Spiral (which reshuffles my Counterspell s and Path to Exile s back into my library).
The foremost card I would recommend for this deck is Intuition , as it is the single best card you can have in bruna. Basically a three cmc instant speed Three Dreams (which is already ridiculous here). I don't know if you're on a budget, but i'd definitely splurge for this card.
The second thing is I think your trying to run a few too many combos. Guile /Dovescape , Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir /Knowledge Pool , and Aura Thief /Enchanted Evening all seem a little too cute. Most of the cards are expensive to cast and rather clunky on their own.
Well as for my combos I would already be using Enchanted Evening to pair with Serra's Sanctum , Ethereal Armor , Cleansing Meditation , and Sphere of Safety so I feel like adding Aura Thief is fine. Nearly the same is true about Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir and Knowledge Pool . I would be running Teferi anyway due to his overpowered nature so a slot devoted to a soft lock is fine by me.
I'm not really worried much about acceleration in this case because I'd rather have removal/counterspells. Add to that the Serra's Sanctum /Enchanted Evening combo and I have all the mana I could ever want.
Divine Reckoning plays nice with Voltron strategies and has flashback. In my opinion that makes it better for my purposes.
I'll have to look into getting an Intuition .
I appreciate the help.
I see you run few creatures and few artifacts and are also looking for token removal. Dissipation Field is good if you can take a few hits, but why not Equipoise ? It'll kill those tokens for ya, plus if you wanted to redirect fire to another person, target the player who went before you to maximize the amount of time his/her creatures/lands/artifacts are phased out.
Anyway, that's my 2 cents. I find it works wonders in my Marshmallow Complexion deck.
Kor Spiritdancer and Mesa Enchantress ? I'm a huge fan of these cards in my own Bruna EDH. I love suiting them up and making them big beaters while drawing cards in the process. If I get one of them early, they can usually take out a player by themselves. And if someone uses removal on them? No big deal because Bruna can just pick right up where they left off.
I used to have the same mindset when I first built my Bruna deck. But I guess we have different play styles then. I used to just dump and loot away my Auras with my earlier builds, but I actually find myself hard casting them now. I just think it's better to actually use Auras to turn your various creatures into threats and get them to the Graveyard by putting pressure on opponents and forcing them to remove them.
you'd have to pop one of the enchantments or make a state based action occur that basically says you win. So things like Goblin Bombardment or Warstorm Surge come to mind, but i mean. Idk what you can do with it in white/blue. I suppose you could tap Serra's Sanctum for some arbitrary amount of mana and Laboratory Maniac and Staff of Domination . but why would you do that? That's an unbelievable amount of setup.
Diplomatic Immunity is a common voltron aura.
Emeria, The Sky Ruin is ineffective. The chances of it going off are pretty low, and it comes in tapped.
Land Tax is worth including if you can get one.
Aura Thief seems unnecessary. Control of the auras is irrelevant for Bruna's ability.
Baneslayer Angel is only really useful as a beater, although it's a decent target for your aura spells.
I need to get my Diplomatic Immunity in here again.
My focus isn't really on explosive attacks. My focus is being left alone long enough to set up an alpha strike. That can't be done without the cards to do so, that being said, ramp isn't bad. Never is. I need to get a Sphinx's Revelation for this.
I have a Land Tax in the deck, for some reason I didn't input it here, not sure what's going on there.
Yea, Baneslayer Angel is just a beater. A GOOD beater but just a beater.
I really like this deck by the way, I'm getting together the cards right now. This will be my first EDH deck, and I realize this won't guarantee me lots of wins but I really wanted to play a Bruna deck. +1 :)
