Bruna, Light of Alabaster Control/Voltron hybrid.

#You will upvote this deck.

The point here is to control/make people less interested in attacking you until you can deliver the killing blow with a massive Bruna, Light of Alabaster.

Sphere of Safety + Enchanted Evening + Greater Auramancy + Propaganda + Windborn Muse + Norn's Annex = Don't look at me.

This deck has a light control and a light self mill sub-theme. I had this deck as a full Voltron deck but I found myself finding my wincons in turns 10-11. I needed a way to stay in the game 'till I could deliver the "coup de grace".

As it stands I haven't lost with this deck yet. Everything seems on point. (Played v.s. a Sedris, the Traitor King deck, a Avacyn, Angel of Hope deck, and a Krenko, Mob Boss deck. So far, so good.)

Check out all of my other decks as well!

Nekusar, the Mindrazer's Everyone Gets Cards!,
Krenko, Mob Boss's Krenko's Commandos,
Omnath, Locus of Mana's Rollover Minutes,
Sliver Overlord's EDH? Why Not Slivers?,
Doran, the Siege Tower's About Tree Fiddy, and
Derevi, Empyrial Tactician's I Vant, my burd...,
Thanks for your support, suggestions, and feedback for making each of these decks what they are today.

I have decided that I need to advertise on each of my decks the things that I am looking to acquire for each deck and, if you are a trader who has what I am looking for, feel free to look at my Binder.

I am looking for suggestions.

Things that came out: Nothing yet.

Things that went in: Nothing yet.

Things I want to add in: Detention Sphere , Holy Mantle , and Realmwright though the last one is on of a lower priority. Thoughts?

Dropping Angelic Destiny and Daybreak Coronet for Holy Mantle and Blind Obedience .

Angelic Destiny is great but all it offers is a +4+4 boost that can return to hand, Holy Mantle makes Bruna, Light of Alabaster unblockable and since she has Vigilance a great blocker as well. The +2/+2 difference doesn't mean much because even at a 9/9 Bruna still has to make 3 swings to kill someone if Angelic Destiny is attached; Holy Mantle 's boost of +2/+2 puts Bruna's P/T at 7/7, also making 3 swings game but it has the added bonus of making her unblockable as well.

I was never getting much use out of Daybreak Coronet , oftentimes sitting in my hand until I was able to dig up another enchantment to attach to a creature. Blind Obedience is great for slowing things down a turn and giving me time to deal with them and the Extort is just an added bonus.

SpiritChaser says... #3

Great but Blind Obedience has w/b hybrid symbol isnt?

February 24, 2013 7:12 a.m.

Ohthenoises says... #4

If you read the EDH rules you will find that: "Reminder text is not included in the colour identity of a card." - This makes any Extort able to be ran in any mono white or mono black decks. If it were printed like Ghor-Clan Rampager it wouldn't be allowed but since the B/W is in the parentheses it is ignored for the purposes of EDH.

The decks I tend to play against are Grimgrin, Corpse-Born and Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker. I wanted ways to stop the stupid amounts of tokens these decks created. So I included Guardian of the Gateless and Holy Mantle and Spirit Mantle in my Bruna deck. That one creature can now block any number of the tokens they have and my flying bruna can swing through for a lot. I also have Sphere of Safety to stop being overrun. I'd like your opinion on my build though. Bruna, Voltron Force

March 7, 2013 8:57 p.m.

Ohthenoises says... #7

I do like me some Rabid Wolverines type effect, I have Blind Obedience to help for combo and haste+swarm decks but Guardian of the Gateless seems good. Any thoughts on what to remove? Also, I'm looking to add Sapphire Medallion as well.

March 7, 2013 9:17 p.m.

I still don't like Void Stalker. Too random of an effect for my taste.

March 7, 2013 11:19 p.m.

Ohthenoises says... #9

Random, yes, but for 3 mana I can tuck your general at instant speed. That is awesome.

March 7, 2013 11:58 p.m.

NensouHiebara says... #10

Don't bother with Guardian of the Gateless. It's a mediocre creature. If you need more creature stalling options, another sweeper is better. Perhaps Austere Command. There's also Dissipation Field to keep tokens off your back. As for what to drop, Journey to Nowhere is the only card I see that's an easy cut.

Hall of the Bandit Lord can be another source of haste.

March 8, 2013 11:12 p.m.

Kirtanian says... #11

Instead of Guardian of the Gateless, how about something like Entangler? With your Spirit Mantle you could give opponents all kinds of trouble.

March 8, 2013 11:23 p.m.

Ohthenoises says... #12

@NensouHiebara The CMC on the Austere Command really puts me off, that being said I realize that I AM running quite a few large CMC spells, I'd normally make an argument about the fact that I cheat most of them out or they are part of a 2 part lock-out combo but I think you can see that. Instead I'll take your suggestion of Dissipation Field for three reasons, one it's an enchantment, two it's in my binder currently, and three at 4 cmc it is relatively cheap. My only concerns are letting them hit me in the first place and ETB abilities like Snapcaster Mage or any of the Titans but that's a job for sweepers and for counter magic on the re-entry. I appreciate the once over and if you like it feel free to check the others, they are all on par with this one for effectiveness and theme.

Azorius Charm is winning in my deck, why dont you give it a chance Ohthenoises ?

March 16, 2013 4:39 p.m.

Ohthenoises says... #14

Azorius Charm isn't bad but I hesitate to call it "good" either. I am never missing removal so it's AEthertow ability wouldn't really be all that interesting. For card draw Think Twice is hands down better, that being said with the light self mill Visions of Beyond is better still. (Brainstorm gets an honorable mention.) Finally, the Lifelink it not needed. I have plenty of sources of Lifelink and they wouldn't stack so, meh.

You should totally add True Conviction .

May 11, 2013 4:58 p.m.

Ohthenoises says... #17

With no way to cheat it out Battle Mastery is better in this case IMO.

May 11, 2013 4:59 p.m.

SpiritChaser says... #18

True Conviction is too much expensive to cast. Another good triock that im thinking of testing is Guardian of the Gateless + Indestructibility

May 11, 2013 7:04 p.m.

parasitian says... #19

Personally I believe that Entangler would be much better than Guardian of the Gateless in this deck.

May 11, 2013 7:09 p.m.

SpiritChaser says... #20

Yeah, but I dont have one and GoftGateless I got on a booster :D

May 11, 2013 7:10 p.m.

Ohthenoises says... #21

If I were to buy anything I'd get Entangler . When paired with Indestructibility , Spirit Mantle , or Holy Mantle I can hold off any creature based combos.

May 11, 2013 7:16 p.m.

Ohthenoises says... #22

Sapphire Medallion wasn't doing much for me. Cut for Render Silent .

May 11, 2013 7:22 p.m.

SpiritChaser says... #23

I would like to know your experiences with Render Silent and if you are having any problems casting it, due to its mana cost.

May 11, 2013 7:24 p.m.

Ohthenoises says... #24

None so far. It's just as hard to cast Counterspell or Hinder .

May 11, 2013 7:27 p.m.

SplodyCopter says... #25

Just sayin, man. That light mill sub-theme is nice. My friend runs Traumatize in his, and I know it's risky, but just see how many times you win the game with that card. We all hold counterspells for that one damn Traumatize .

May 11, 2013 11:46 p.m.

Ohthenoises says... #26

I run draw over mill usually. The light self mill only includes Jace's Archivist (who also draws), Fact or Fiction (which proves to be a damned if you do/damned if you don't for most players), and Psychic Spiral (which reshuffles my Counterspell s and Path to Exile s back into my library).

I know why people run Traumatize but I'd rather have it in my hand via Blue Sun's Zenith /Consecrated Sphinx than have to rely on luck to get enough enchantments to kill with.

May 11, 2013 11:53 p.m.

SpiritChaser says... #27

Where I play I have a lot of Reanimator Combo players so Im running Web of Inertia and Rest in Peace . Only used BOTH toghter onece and it saved me from losing to a Dragon Reanimator deck. So far so good, im Invictus!

May 12, 2013 2:33 p.m.

Ohthenoises says... #28

Only problem with Rest in Peace is that it kills your own aura reanimation from Bruna. Why not run Grafdigger's Cage for anti-reanimator?

May 12, 2013 6:41 p.m.

SpiritChaser says... #29

Im looking for one cage. RIP killed my enchantment reanimations but saved me from loosing as well. Im keeping it until get some cage.

Blakkhand says... #30

The foremost card I would recommend for this deck is Intuition , as it is the single best card you can have in bruna. Basically a three cmc instant speed Three Dreams (which is already ridiculous here). I don't know if you're on a budget, but i'd definitely splurge for this card.

The second thing is I think your trying to run a few too many combos. Guile /Dovescape , Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir /Knowledge Pool , and Aura Thief /Enchanted Evening all seem a little too cute. Most of the cards are expensive to cast and rather clunky on their own.

In their place I recommend cards that would advance your speed, such as Azorius Signet , Talisman of Progress , Mana Crypt , Sky Diamond , and Marble Diamond .

My only other suggestion would be to drop Divine Reckoning for Cataclysm , unless your meta hates out mass LD. Hope this helps!

May 21, 2013 1:09 a.m.

Ohthenoises says... #31

Well as for my combos I would already be using Enchanted Evening to pair with Serra's Sanctum , Ethereal Armor , Cleansing Meditation , and Sphere of Safety so I feel like adding Aura Thief is fine. Nearly the same is true about Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir and Knowledge Pool . I would be running Teferi anyway due to his overpowered nature so a slot devoted to a soft lock is fine by me.

I could stand to lose Guile and Dovescape however.

I'm not really worried much about acceleration in this case because I'd rather have removal/counterspells. Add to that the Serra's Sanctum /Enchanted Evening combo and I have all the mana I could ever want.

Divine Reckoning plays nice with Voltron strategies and has flashback. In my opinion that makes it better for my purposes.

I'll have to look into getting an Intuition .

I appreciate the help.

May 24, 2013 11:27 a.m.

Kasimac says... #33

I see you run few creatures and few artifacts and are also looking for token removal. Dissipation Field is good if you can take a few hits, but why not Equipoise ? It'll kill those tokens for ya, plus if you wanted to redirect fire to another person, target the player who went before you to maximize the amount of time his/her creatures/lands/artifacts are phased out.

Anyway, that's my 2 cents. I find it works wonders in my Marshmallow Complexion deck.

May 24, 2013 8:19 p.m.

SpiritChaser says... #34

Fact or Fiction is a MONSTER in this deck, and im running Sphinx's Revelation wich is the supreme kill with Bruna

May 27, 2013 7:18 p.m.

shermanido37 says... #35

Didn't you consider Norn's Annex ? While it's a nice card on its own, since the mana option is only white certain decks will have to pay life to let their creatures attack you.

adt630 says... #36

I'm not sure if its your thing because of the CMC but Celestial Mantle can get out of control incredibly quickly.

June 3, 2013 8:45 p.m.

AngelsOrDie says... #37

Ohthenoises Just wondering why you are not running Sphinx's Revelation , when you can combo that with Bruna, Light of Alabaster 's effect during the battle phase since it is at instant speed.

June 6, 2013 12:49 a.m.

Kor Haven maybe?

June 9, 2013 1:19 a.m.

Loozar402 says... #42

Kor Spiritdancer and Mesa Enchantress ? I'm a huge fan of these cards in my own Bruna EDH. I love suiting them up and making them big beaters while drawing cards in the process. If I get one of them early, they can usually take out a player by themselves. And if someone uses removal on them? No big deal because Bruna can just pick right up where they left off.

July 12, 2013 2:24 a.m.

Ohthenoises says... #43

My issue with those two is that I'm virtually NEVER casting my enchantments but, rather, I'm cheating them out.

July 12, 2013 8:17 a.m.

Loozar402 says... #44

I used to have the same mindset when I first built my Bruna deck. But I guess we have different play styles then. I used to just dump and loot away my Auras with my earlier builds, but I actually find myself hard casting them now. I just think it's better to actually use Auras to turn your various creatures into threats and get them to the Graveyard by putting pressure on opponents and forcing them to remove them.

July 12, 2013 12:28 p.m.

Ohthenoises says... #45

I usually save my mana for counter magic or removal.

July 12, 2013 3:09 p.m.

shermanido37 says... #46

Ajani's Chosen + Enchanted Evening + anything = infinite cats.

However since the effect is mandatory you'll have to stop the combo manually somehow... Think you can manage it?

July 27, 2013 1:35 p.m.

SplodyCopter says... #47

you'd have to pop one of the enchantments or make a state based action occur that basically says you win. So things like Goblin Bombardment or Warstorm Surge come to mind, but i mean. Idk what you can do with it in white/blue. I suppose you could tap Serra's Sanctum for some arbitrary amount of mana and Laboratory Maniac and Staff of Domination . but why would you do that? That's an unbelievable amount of setup.

Louie says... #50

Instead of Endless Horizons , you could use Land Tax . You won't lose the cards that Endless Horizons exile if it gets destroyed and you may get islands as well. The only thing you'll lose by this change is the possibility to get Hallowed Fountain , not that big of a thing.

September 1, 2013 2 p.m.

Aurification and Endless Horizons seem subpar.

Diplomatic Immunity is a common voltron aura.

Because your focus is on having explosive attacks, you should add more ramp. Mana Vault is an auto-include. Mana Crypt and Grim Monolith are less accessible by virtue of price.

Emeria, The Sky Ruin is ineffective. The chances of it going off are pretty low, and it comes in tapped.

Several of your lands come in tapped, which is not ideal. You should think about how that will impact your tempo. Mystic Gate and Adarkar Wastes can help you circumvent the ETB-tapped tempo hit.

Land Tax is worth including if you can get one.

Aura Thief seems unnecessary. Control of the auras is irrelevant for Bruna's ability.

Baneslayer Angel is only really useful as a beater, although it's a decent target for your aura spells.

October 6, 2013 6:10 p.m.

Ohthenoises says... #52

Aurification is in there as another Propaganda -type effect. Usually it's just a deterrent. Endless Horizons thins my deck and counts to my Enchantment total.

I need to get my Diplomatic Immunity in here again.

My focus isn't really on explosive attacks. My focus is being left alone long enough to set up an alpha strike. That can't be done without the cards to do so, that being said, ramp isn't bad. Never is. I need to get a Sphinx's Revelation for this.

I have a Land Tax in the deck, for some reason I didn't input it here, not sure what's going on there.

Aura Thief combos with Enchanted Evening as a sub-combo. It's still useful with all of the Necropotence s and Rhystic Study s out there.

Yea, Baneslayer Angel is just a beater. A GOOD beater but just a beater.

The stuff you mentioned is on the low end of the priority but I really enjoy Aura Thief and Endless Horizons for their utility.

Ohthenoises says... #53

Also, thank you.

October 6, 2013 6:22 p.m.

Auramancer's Guise ? It's like an Ethereal Armor on crack only instead of first strike you get vigilance.

I really like this deck by the way, I'm getting together the cards right now. This will be my first EDH deck, and I realize this won't guarantee me lots of wins but I really wanted to play a Bruna deck. +1 :)

LT says... #58

Nice build. The don't touch me aspect is one that I looked at when I build my deck but I went with a more control version with a touch of screw you. One card you may want to consider is Meddling Mage . I find it useful as a 2 drop for keeping other Commanders off the field early on. If you can keep it from getting zapped it's a great card. Take a look at my Bruna's Big Deck of Don't. It's not a typical build but it's fun.

March 4, 2014 8:39 a.m.

Won't you like to add Read the Runes for a massive set-up of auras in your graveyard and hand so that you can easily utilize the ability of Bruna, Light of Alabaster then use Replenish as a contingency?

I will still attack you and win. Or I could play Austere Command , Akroma's Vengeance , Back to Nature , Bane of Progress , Cleanfall or Fracturing Gust . The list goes on. We need to stop making deck that revolve around etheral armor. Which this deck is.

July 27, 2014 1:25 p.m.

Ohthenoises says... #62

kidwithnoname methinks you are completely missing all of my counter magic and numerous board wipes....

This deck isn't revolving around Ethereal Armor , this deck revolves around a U/W control shell with Bruna as my finisher.

It's hard to attack when you have no creatures, harder still when you can't resolve an Akroma's Vengeance .

I suggest you actually look at the deck next time before spouting off with "IT GETS DED TO DIS CARD SO IT'S BAD!!!" Because you look silly when you do so.

I was reading the rules that you posted about Blind Obedience and I would like some clarification of the rules. It seems to me that you can have any card that reads any color, but nothing with mana symbols. If Blind Obedience said "Swamp or Plains" instead of the hybrid mana symbol, you would be fine. But from my understanding, Blind Obedience is currently illegal in your deck.

I play Bruna myself, although my build is more focused on ramp and less on pillowfort, but when I move in for the kill, I find myself tutoring for Diplomatic Immunity or Alexi's Cloak before anything else. Also consider Corrupted Conscience - any two of that, Battle Mastery, and Eldrazi Conscription is lethal, and it's a Control Magic if you need one.
