Atraxa Doing What She Does Best

Commander / EDH Counters GWUB

Zeckimus

Maybeboard

Howdy everybody, this is the first deck I have ever posted to TappedOut.net and I'm coming to you guys for some help. I recently took this deck to a small commander tournament at my local game shop and to say the least I wasn't really impressed with how this deck performed. Now I understand that everybody just draws the wrong cards from time to time, but I want to make this deck as efficient as possible.

This deck (obviously) revolves around Atraxa's proliferate mechanic. I have plenty of cards that give a variety of counters to other cards, players, and themselves while Atraxa (and a few other cards) help boost the number of counters on each card/player. When I play the deck, I assume that most players target me because counters can get out of hand really quickly, but even when I'm not the target of my opponent's assault, the deck just doesn't move very fast.

Doubling Season is obviously the best card to have out before I play a planeswalker, especially because 8 out of 12 of them can use their ultimate right off the bat if they aren't countered or hit with some damage.

Cards like Inexorable Tide, Contagion Engine, and Tezzeret's Gambit help Atraxa get more and more counters onto the field which is essentially the entire strategy of this deck.

Kalonian Hydra doubles all of my +1/+1 counters every time it attacks and card:Deeplglow Skate doubles all of my counters that are on my permanents when it enters the battlefield. Most of the creatures in this deck either make their own +1/+1 counters or give them away to other creatures so it's pretty uncommon for my creatures not to have a couple of +1/+1 counters on them. Also, if Corpsejack Menace and/or Winding Constrictor are on the field, that only further increases the number of +1/+1 counters on my creatures as well as myself and my artifacts.

If I ever manage to get Doubling Season out with enough mana left over, Tamiyo, Field Researcher + Tamiyo, the Moon Sage create a crazy set up for a bunch of infinite combos and with any of my instants, specifically Cyclonic Rift, paired up with Inexorable Tide create unlimited proliferation. (EDIT: I just reread Cyclonic Rift and I can only target permanents I don't control. Whoops.)

That's pretty much it for the big game winner combos or synergies. Everything (except for the mana rocks, removal, and a few other cards) try to work together to make a bunch of counters to overwhelm (or just defeat with infect) my opponents. So please look over this deck, help take out any slow cards or unnecessary planeswalkers, and really try to make Atraxa a force to be reckoned with. Thanks!
