Opening

Hey all, and welcome back to The Mad Shaman's Brewery.

Today, I found out that people still like this deck. So I'm gonna give it some love and update it, bringing it back to the powerhouse status it once had.

Just like before, I want it to remain easy to play, and around a 7 in terms of power. That way I can reliably play it in casual without making people sad.

The Build

A long time ago, Brutal_B asked if I thought energy could be a viable gameplan in EDH. In my mind, I said "Well crap, I've never seen it before so probably not." but Nillstan doesnt pass up chances to make stupid ideas work.

First thing I had to do was get a decent commander that plays well with counters and allows me access to colors. Boom. Atraxa. 4c, strong, and plays with counters. Easily the best choice I could've made in the creation of this deck.

That proliferation every turn is a huge boon to the viability on this strategy. It's a steady, consistent stream of the resources that makes the engine turn. Big plus.

Simply put, this isn't standard.

Building a deck like this is all about synergy. The individual power of energy cards is low even by my standards, especially in commander.

That said, if I was aiming for maximum power, I'd play temur. But the synergy is what makes or breaks Energy in commander, and what allowed this deck to become so strong in the first place. You COULD switch to Temur, but your missing out on a ton of synergy that'll win you many a game. Just a fair warning.

As for the gameplan, it's pretty simple really. Play the deck normally, building and spending energy as needed, and one of your payoffs will soon follow.

You tend to generate a lot of counters just by existing. This is pretty good all around, leaving into a number of good payoffs. Some of which include Aetherwind Basker for damage, Demon of Dark Schemes to steal creatures, or Luminarch Ascension for a huge board of fliers. These are of course not the only ones, just a few examples.

The deck is heavy reliant on beats. Just knock your opponents out with value and combat damage.

Of course in terms of killing opponents, Atraxa herself is no slouch. Another big plus.

Currently In Testing

Nothing really. I'm fairly satisfied with it as a whole, but I'll absolutely test anything that gets commented.

Closing

Once again, shoutout to Brutal_B for giving me this idea that probably shouldn't work.

Also, another shoutout to TaurusJudge for reminding me that people actually like this deck, and therefore being the only reason it was updated.

Feel free to help me out with this one.
