Sideboard

Maybeboard

My previous Atraxa deck always lost the same way; I spent all my time and energy building up my board for a windup, but before the KO all those counters could all go up in smoke. I could outspend my opponent but if they never connected what was the point.

The main concept of this deck is to not let your +1/+1 counters go to waste with target removal and boardwipes until they can be used for the win. As you creatures grow fast, they start to attract a lot of attention and if they are killed there is a lot of time and energy that goes to waste that was spent giving them all of those counters. Obvious additions to counteract this are Death's Presence and Reyhan, Last of the Abzan, but what those counters get transferred to just becomes the next body with an even larger target on its back. My solution was to use the Man-Lands, Lumbering Falls, to collect counters in such situations and bide more time proliferating/collecting until there is a window to use the awakened mechanic from BFZ and OotGW like Ruinous Path Planar Outburst to throw out massive Land creatures at exactly the right time.

I wanted to try to do something with Atraxa, Praetors' Voice that was different than what her abilities immediately suggest. I run a set of the partner commanders in this as well. They work as good alternates (if not an easier primary) that support what is happening here.

this is ultimately a work in progress. there is some dead weight and some weak spots that could be filled. in.
