Ashlee's Owls

A happy deck of happy owls built for a casual Lady Planeswalkers night at the LGS.

Fact 1: She loves owls

Fact 2: She wanted a happy deck

Fact 3: ???

Fact 4: Profit

Deck Mechanic: Flooding the board with flyers for fast board presence... combo of ludicrous amounts of scry + the happy combo of Bident of Thassa + Sphinx's Tutelage should flood the hand with every card she could ever wish for... and mill the opponent to death allowing a happy victory without too awful much bloodshed.

Plus I can build the deck for less than the cost of a fancy dinner.

I like it! I didn't know there were enough owls for an owl deck. I think your attempt at happy owls is likely to be successful.

Thank you for the encouragement... I really hope it plays well and she likes it.

She loves owls, and she wanted very, very simple mechanics. When I start flipping over Den Protectors or making Voltron Heroic soldiers she gets a bit confused... I'm very hopeful this should do both tricks.

I like the theme. +1

You may want to have a plan B in the form of 4x Favorable Wind to anthem your army of happy owls into a wincon

Some kind of way to fetch Tutelage would also be nice. The earlier it gets online the better.

shinbatsuThe Plan B was just to have her beat them in the face with an army of fliers... so yeah... Favorable Winds looks amazing.

Great call!

ComradeJim270 That would make things significantly easier... I do agree... I was hoping the 11 Owls with scry in them would help weed down to the money cards. Having a 5th of the deck scrying 3+ should help... not sure if there's any other quick way to fetch an enchantment in a blue deck.

Hm... true. You'd need a bit of a white splash. Probably too much for now, but maybe something to consider in the future.

I thought about splashing white... let her have Jotun Owl Keeper and maybe Magus of the Moat... but that brings up two big problems.

-Losing Owls (See Fact 1)

-I'm making the deck competitive (See Fact 2)

Supposedly Lady Planeswalkers night is just a casual get together for ladies to play fun decks and learn how to play (and apparently there will be snacks)... not a group of super aggro nerds who want to jump over the table and strangle their opponent with their own playmat when they drop an Ensoul Artifact onto Darksteel Citadel... discard 2x Simian Spirit Guide to cast Manamorphose into Mirror Mockery and start swinging for 10 indestructible on Turn 2....

So as much as I'm looking at this deck and trying to eek out ways to get her an even more overpowered deck... I start to forget I'm building this deck for her... not for me...

I dont think you can attack with the Mirror Mockery token, as it is not tapped and attacking, and im not sure how tokens work with Ensoul Artifact, as they are no longer enchanted.

That's actually a really good point... I was just trying to come up with the most ludicrous example I could think of on short notice... I suppose I should have thought harder...

Turn one:
Exile Simian Spirit Guide, play Amulet of Vigor. Then play Simic Growth Chamber, tap it, then return it to your hand. Cast Summer Bloom. Then repeat the Simic Growth Chamber 3 times, cast Hive Mind. Then cast Summoner's Pact for a Primeval Titan. Your opponent copies it, can't pay the cost, and loses the game

Should almost make a deck that runs on Ebony Owl Netsuke and is of course full of owls!

Infral I actually thought about that... I love that card and I already own 4 of them.

I couldn't decide if I wanted the non-violent win mechanic to be her drawing an obscene amount of cards and Sphinx's Tutelage doing the damage.... or if I wanted her opponent to be drawing an obscene amount of cards and Ebony Owl Netsuke doing the damage.

After flipping a coin I decided to let her have card advantage and see what kind of chaos the Sphinx would do. With the obscene amount of cards that she's going to have, with this current build Ebony Owl Netsuke would hurt her just as bad as her opponent (if not worse).

The alternative option was to replace Bident of Thassa with Howling Mine, and Sphinx's Tutelage with a set of Boomerang and see what the little owl could pull off

Well the good thing about Ebony Owl Netsuke is that it only can hurt opponents, but then again, that requires 'em to have 7+ cards all the time to be effective or else it will be a dead draw c:

Ahhh you are right... My memory failed me on that card... for some reason I thought it was at the beginning of each player's upkeep.

Well.. technically if I stacked all the card draw on this hand... then tapping Jace's Archivist at the end of the main phase, prior to having to discard, would technically flood the opponent's hand too... could be an option...
