Playtesting Record 11-2 on Untap —July 15, 2017

Only lost to Jeskai Control and a Mono Blue Mill

Had a successful mill out where I milled 52 of my opponents cards on turn 6, double Fraying Sanity and Startled Awake  Flip

Why only 2 Startled Awake?

July 9, 2017 5:32 p.m.

Ice_Water says... #3

LegitQuickness simply because i really only need 2 in here because of fraying sanity. In the small chance i cast 2 in a game, i will most likely have won already because of all the other mill presence. but anyway, what do you think i should take out for another Startled Awake  Flip?

At first I was confused as to your lack of mill gas but I can see what you're doing here now. Fraying Sanity is pretty scary in it's nondiscrimination of how a card got to the graveyard. I notice your sideboard is missing cards to remove big threats... something like Memory could be really rough for you.

Have you considered Extraction cards like Lost Legacy?

TMBRLZ that's a great catch. Lost Legacy will definitely help in that area. What do you think about sliding Dispossess into the sideboard as well?

The only thing in Standard you'd want to use it for would be Torrential Gearhulk in control and maybe Heart of Kiran, but with Aetheworks Marvel out of the picture, it's far less relevant.

For targeted graveyard hate at instant speed. Crook of Condemnation

Qolorful excellent suggestion, especially with all of the play embalm and eternalize are going to get. Thank you for that, i have put it in my sideboard accordingly

I play tested this deck for a bit and I think that it can be beaten by a creature heavy deck for sure, i think that moving Fatal Push into the main-board would definitely help out and make this a stronger deck.

Ice_Water says... #11

Brannan I agree with you, what do you suggest I swap for fatal push?

July 11, 2017 2:11 p.m.

Brannan says... #12

I would bump Never / Return down to 1 and then add in 3 Fatal Push

Brannan done and done. Thanks for that. It lowered my CMC a lot. So that helps

Do you find Transgress to be better than Lay Bare the Heart? I totally get wanting to nail something with the exile effect, but Lay Bare is another way to put things into the graveyard? I almost think that I would like to see that as a 2/2 split between the main and the sideboard. Also I love Dovin Baan in this list. He seems like straight gas.

With a lot of graveyard shenanigans going on in my meta right now NinjaShank56 i feel that Transgress the Mind is the safest way to go. Lay Bare the Heart gives you 2 hoops to jump through and sends it to the graveyard where something can be embalmed or eternalized. I like your thinking though. I appreciate the up vote and the compliments about Dovin Baan, he seems woefully underutilized to me, he's an excellent control planeswalker

NinjaShank56 says... #20

That seems very reasonable with the Lay Bare the Hearts, and I somewhat guessed that that would be the reasoning for it. I've been really high on Dovin Baan since he released, I just haven't found a good place to put him yet. I may build this, or something close to it though. I'm really excited to try to do mill, it should be fun!

BestBuds thanks for the +1!! if you ever get to playtest this, i promise you'll have a ton of fun

Question. Do you think dovin baan is really worth splashing white? Seems like it will decrease consistency for what many would say is by no means an overwhelming planeswalker. You might consider adding something like Hour of Revelation or Fumigate if you are going to run white?

Ice_Water says... #24

Qolorful Baan's ability to deactivate certain abilities makes him quite useful. not to mention if I'm able to get his final ability off. I was thinking about maybe sideboarding fumigate and Authority of the Consuls for more white

I would say get rid of Baan and maybe add Ob Nixilis Reignited instead because he is very similar to Jace in letting you draw cards and he can destroy a creature, but also his emblem is very good. That way you can sure up the mana base a bit.
