Intro:

My fiance and I saw Ensoul Artifact and Ornithopter in a draft game work so amazingly well that we decided to make our own deck with this idea.

The idea of this deck is to get ready for the up coming rotation. We decided to keep Ratchet Bomb in the deck to counter enchantments that would otherwise hinder our deck. What good is it to have a Generator Servant to give haste to a Scuttling Doom Engine if a white enchant will just make all artifacts come into play tapped.

Some basic combos include:

Generator Servant + Scuttling Doom Engine OR Soul of New Phyrexia. Turn 4 6/6 with haste.

Scuttling Doom Engine + Shrapnel Blast . Min of 11 damage, max of 17 if you do it after swinging.

Ensoul Artifact + Ornithopter . 5/5 with flying turn 2.

Darksteel Citadel + Ensoul Artifact . 5/5 indestructable blocker/swinger.

Bident of Thassa + Thassa, God of the Sea. Not only do you get to see what you are about to draw by scrying, but you can force the enemy to attack you and block with your 5/5 indestructable blocker. Oh and make your 6/6 soul unblockable, too.

The goal is that once you have rushed in a 5/5 or 6/6, to save about 3 mana to counter exile spells and such.

For the sideboard, we have Scouring Sands to clear tokens who are annoying and blocking us, deathtouch flying included.

We also have Phyrexian Revoker as the new Pithing Needle to stop annoying activated abilities AND mana abilities ( such as Sylvan Caryatid's mana ability), but we can use Revokers as fodder for Chief Engineer's convoke ability while it is doing it's job.

If you are going against a deck with heavy instants, i recommend swapping Lightning Strike with Negate. 2:2.

Too many exiles to count? Swap 2 Izzet Charm for 2 Rapid Hybridization. This is for in case you don't have Shrapnel Blast, you get a 3/3 instead of nothing.

Planeswalkers/Abilities: Swap a hammer and bident for 2 or 3 Phyrexian Revoker.

Is your match-up against a ton of blockers? That is what Bident of Thassa and/or Thassa, God of the Sea is for.

With so many combos, it is really hard for this deck to fail. Even against Supreme Verdict, which can be countered with Soul of New Phyrexia but even still, your Scuttling Doom Engine will still do 6 damage, if not 11 from Shrapnel Blast.

I spent about $70 on this deck, before the Thassa, God of the Sea jumped up from $5 per card to now $12.

This is the first deck we submitted to Tapped out, please leave a like if you thought it was good, or a suggestion if you have any. BUT remember that this is a budget deck, we are trying to keep it under $80 AND rotate out M14.

Swapped 2x Soul of New Phyrexia for 2x Scrapyard Mongrel. The card is cheaper, 1 power less than the soul, and although I will miss the tap 5 mana and make everything indestructible, it comes down to cost and $22.00 is $20.00 too much if it can be avoided.

As a side note; I have been doing a lot of play tests to tweek bad draws, which were rare to begin with (>8% chance). One of the reasons that even mass land draws work for this deck is because of scry lands and Hammer of Purphoros. This hammer has saved many bad hands by making 3/3 attack-block tokens from my over drawn lands, stalling enough for Scuttling Doom Engine with Shrapnel Blast.

Infact, if you can get a scuttling doom engine out with haste at turn 4, you should be able to do 6 damage that turn. If you are able to attack and land on turn 5, shrapnel blast your engine for the win: swing for 6 + swing for 6 + ([6 from engine's death] + [5 from blast]) = 23 Damage on turn 5.
