Green... Red tokens?

While it isn't the famed and greatly overplayed G/W Tokens we all want to play it is my gateway to eventually running my own Naya // Selesnya Red build of G/W Tokens. This deck though can't be counted out as I believe it is like G/W Tokens Evil Twin.

Instead of Gideons we have Arlinn Kord   and Chandra, Flamecaller.

Instead of Avacyn's we use Pia and Kiran Nalaar and Thopter Engineers to control the skies.

In the spot of Dec in Stone, Stasis Snare, Dromoka's Command, and other removal we run sideboard specific removal such as Roast, Clip Wings (works great for Ormendahl as well), and smaller removal in the MF like Outnumber and our everything beater Fiery Conclusion .

We have many similarities with G/W tokens such as Sylvan Advocate, Nissa, Voice of Zendikar, Hangarback Walkers, Oath of Nissa, and our own Westvale Abbey  s. And we generally run the samestretegy. Go wide, boost everything, win games.

Win Cons

Chandra, Flamecaller - built in board wipe if we need it, hand control if needed, but most importantly she can swing for 6 every turn. Great synergy with Nissa and Arlinn is a plus and we can do some very interesting things with her and Evolutionary Leap in the sideboard.

Arlinn Kord   - She does it all, tokens, boosts, deal 3 to target creature, she is a jack of all trades. She effectively becomes our Gideon and most of the time it's play her, get a 2/2 wolf, then next turn we either

  1. shoot something for 3 and flip back to then make another 2/2 Wolf the next turn or...

  2. If our board state is favorable and wide enough we start boosting with the +1/+1 and trample.

I very rarely see us using her Ult in this deck but you never know. It might be good against some decks that go wide as well.

Nissa, Voice of Zendikar - the final Planeswalker in the deck is absolutely great. If we can Ult her it gives us CRAZY card advantage if not putting out plant tokens and boosting everything is awesome as well. Very often I see myself play her turn 3 then boost back to back and kill her off just to make the board state in my favor leaving me normally with tons of boosted Thopters or and already 4/5 Advocate before my 6th land drop.

3-1 tonight at TNM, good outing filled with grindy games.

Round 1 va Mono White Humans 0-2

lost the first game off of lack of speed and removal. His stuff got bigger faster and I could never recover. A grindy game 2 drew him out to top decking and he eventually won off an Ormendahl and a 3/1 flyer made by a reanimated Gryff's Boon on what I consider a misplay by myself.

Sideboard:

+2x Roast

+3x Den Protector

-2x Dragonlord Atarka

-2x Arlinn Kord  Flip

-1x Oath of Nissa

Round 2 vs. U/R Control/Burn Tempo 2-1

To clarify this deck uses the concept of U/R Aggro mixed with baby Jace to reanimate burn spells and help with madness. Fevered Visions was a big time beater too as it was hard to get rid of and it forced us to play small with our opponent.

In game 1 my removal was enough to get the board state huge and eventually ping him down to death with Thopters! Game 2 took a turn fr the worst as he dropped 2 Fevered visions that I hadn't seen the game before. I had no answer and after 14 damage was dealt by those the other 6 were easy for him to achieve. Game 3 was a little grindy and finally he simply couldn't deal with the Thopter barrage and I ended the game there!

Sideboard:

+3x Clips Wings

+3x Den Protector

+3x Display of Dominance (after seeing Visions)

-2x Dragonlord Atarka

-2x Arlinn Kord  Flip (after game 2 Visions)

-4x Hangarback Walker

-1x Oath of Nissa (After game 2 Visions)

Round 3 vs. Bant Company 1-0-1

Grindy, grindy, grindy.... Only words to describe it. An eventual swing of Thopters to then 2nd MP sacrificing the to P & K to deal 2 for the win clinched game 1. Game 2, while I was ahead by a lot was very close as well. We traded off, but eventually we ran out of time as I close din on a W! This was the Eldrazi Displacer version and it makes this normally a terrible matchup for me but I played it well and I felt like we got a well deserved win.

Sideboard:

+3x Den Protector

+2x Roast

-4x Hangarback Walker

-1x Arlinn Kord  Flip

Round 4 vs BYE 2-0

With the ** beside my 3-1 tonight or not getting a 4th round bye because of my opponent leaving was not the plan but I take my W's where I can get them. Would've loved to play against G/W tokens.

Overall a good night with a 3-1 finish off some well deserved, grinded out wins! Naya is coming so stay tuned and prepare yourself for the power that is "Naya Token Superfriends"! Can't wait!!!
