Artifact (1)

Creature (1)

This deck loves to bounce things, especially its own things. The whole thing is to play as many creatures as possible as many times as possible to beef up Animar and swing in for the kill. Since we're going to be bouncing our own dudes I figured we might as well get value out of them with ETB triggers.

The bounce mechanisms are pretty straightforward; Equilibrium, Cloudstone Curio and Crystal Shard are the non-creature bounce effects along with Cyclonic Rift, but that doesn't bounce your own things. Man-o'-War and Dream Stalker basically say you can pump Animar for each blue mana you have untapped. And Tidespout Tyrant has a bunch of whacky combos and interactions and is one of the decks main win conditions besides straight Animar beatdown.

Because Animar is so important to the deck it's pretty important to protect him, aside from his inherent protections. Lightning Greaves and Swiftfoot Boots are the obvious ones, but a lot of people overlook Elgaud Shieldmate who is right on curve for this deck to drop the turn after Animar, pump him up, and protect him. Once he gets to 5/5 Spearbreaker Behemoth becomes an all-star. There are many ways to get card advantage in this deck; Genesis Hydra works great with Animar, Xenagos, God of Revels makes general damage a great win-con, and recurring Sphinx of Uthuun is a great way to refill your hand.

There are also a few ways to add some extra counters to Animar without creatures. Increasing Savagery is insane in this deck and I don't see many other people using Quest for the Gemblades , but both are ways to get that extra acceleration onto pumping Animar and lowering the cost of your stuff. Also, if you can activate Vorel of the Hull Clade on him it's hard to lose the game.

Because Animar accelerates you so fast you need a way to keep your hand full. Soul of the Harvest and Primordial Sage are the biggest proponents for this, but Knollspine Dragon and Fathom Mage can be very explosive.

Duplicant, and Phyrexian Ingester make-up the core creature based creature removal. There's also some counterspells and some ETB artifact and enchantment removal.

Because the deck is mostly creatures it's really easy to include a green creature-tutor package. The ones the deck is designed around are Birthing Pod and Wild Pair, which can be activated continuously to provide as much value as possible. Green Sun's Zenith is also a great targets in this deck. You also can tutor with Brutalizer Exarch and Fierce Empath, giving the deck a bit of a tool-box feel.

Always looking to improve so let me know what you think. I'm still a bit of a budget player so if you have any poor-man's tech let me know.

Updates Add

Finally got around to updating the deck. A little more ramp and mana fixing with Search for Tomorrow and Sylvan Ranger. Plus some new cards from new sets.
