Maybeboard

I got a hold on a copy of Aryel, Knight of Windgrace and thought she'd make a great leader for the Humans deck I'd been wanting to make.

Why Play Aryel?

Aryel, Knight of Windgrace works fablously as a wholesome, toolboxy, middle of the road commander that can be both fun and powerful. This commander can compete in multiplayer games with both well-refined ($2-300) and entry-level decks without feeling out of place.

As a commander, she allows the player a variety of options in terms of in-game versatility. My build aims to utilize untapping effects to get the most value out of her abilities, along with a bit of Knight Tribal. What I love about Aryel is that because she (and many knights in the deck) has vigilance I’m able to swing first and then save her activated abilities either as responses or for the end step before my turn. Having that freedom is so good!

I'm a big fan of activated abilities like Kumena, Tyrant of Orazca so I really like Aryel! With the release of Ixilan I'd wanted to build around Vona, Butcher of Magan , but I like this fine lady more. Aryel gives far more options than Vona, far more reactiveness and looks so much cooler!

Good Cards

Cards that help to optimize Aryel include: Roar of the Kha , Puppet Strings and Village Bell-Ringer . Roar of the Kha could even be used during combat to untap all my Knights and kill something before blockers (while also giving an optional buff, more flexibility!)

MY FAVOURITE CARD IN THE DECK

Is Waylay ! I can leave 4 mana open and even if I don’t have any Knights on board besides Aryel, I can turn a situation around entirely. If nothing threatening comes up I can always tap her for a Knight before my turn instead. Not to mention I can always use it for blocking if needs be.

Do Consider

At least in this deck, it isn't designed to go absolutely wild in the first 3 or so turns. Aryel works best when she and at least a couple other Knights are on the board. I've found I win games that last somewhere from 6-10 turns, removing a few key threats with Aryel, Knight of Windgrace before reaching critical mass.

The deck can win earlier than that, but it's not optimised to.

If early wins are what you're after, Open the Armory effects finding Blackboard Reforged, Swiftfoot Boots , and any other equipment you wanna add is a good way to go. Plus an aggressive curve and all that.

Other Stuff

When casting Vanquisher's Banner I would suggest naming Humans over Knights, because they're more common in the deck. And all the tokens made are humans which then includes Soldiers.

I just got Josu Vess, Lich Knight because he's a solid creature, works with Arvad the Cursed , and has potential for a massive late-game swing or helps remove a massive threat (like Eldrazi Titans)

I'm not gonna make many changes because I'm happy with the power level, but maybe I'd add Illusionist's Bracers and Thousand-Year Elixir . I do own a Herald's Horn but I don't know if I want it here, I like that this is budget but effective.

Do feel free to give suggestions though!

"Rise, and I will show you how to run without flagging, fight without raging, and fly without wings."

"You reek of corruption," spat the knight. "Why are you even here?"

"Our duty does not stop at our borders."

This deck is in need of an update; I now have Fiendslayer Paladin and Thousand-Year Elixir , which went as spectacularly as I had hoped it would!
