Sideboard

This is a Naya Control deck focused on early and quick casting of Planeswalkers. The variety and the removal spells paired with them helps getting control of the Board and efficiently cast Fumigates and Exiles by gaining the typical control slow dominance in the game.

It got to several Top4 at local FNM against Tier1/Tier2 decks and won the AER GameDay with only one loss against GB Delirium during Swiss ( then won against it at the Finals ).

This is the usual matchup behaviour:

  • Aggro ( GB, Mardu, Humans ): usually favored due to the early removals like Harnessed Lightning and Declaration in Stone. The Authority of the Consuls and Nissa, Voice of Zendikar help gaining tempo and get full advantage of Nahiri, the Harbinger. Fumigates will usualy be the step toward victory.

  • Blue Control ( UB, Jeskai ): like all the control matchups, it's a tough one due to relying mostly on T3 Planeswalkers. Later game feels punishing and the lack of Uncounterable creatures in the actual Standard made me going toward Archangel Avacyn   as Sideboard choice. By the way, UB is not the toughest matchup because good draws can lead still to a victory because we have still a lot of Planeswalkers and if they can't get to counter them and we play wisely, we can be able to pull in one of the Chandras which are usually their main problem. Needle Spires are a huge help in these matchups.

  • Midrange ( BW, GB Delirium ): these matchup are usually slighly positive, GB being the harder one especially because of Ishkanah, Grafwidow, which can be a Planeswalker killer with all her spiders. Fumigates and exiles are here the best allies to gain the advantage of the Battlefield and if we are able to mantain a Gideon, Ally of Zendikar on board most of the time, it's usually the best tempo gainer to enter all the other menaces we have in the deck.

Sideboard:

  1. Authority of the Consuls is against Copycats and Aggros. So great I made 2 of them available in the first game. A card that we'll hardly regret having played.
  2. Stasis Snare was the best against Emrakul, but since the ban is the way to deal against bigger threats of the GBs and to the Torrential Gearhulks.
  3. Fumigate is an all-star in all the non-Control matches. If possible, I would even play a 5th.
  4. Radiant Flames it's not Anger of the Gods but does its job good enough. I used to have 2 of them in the Mainboard instead of the Harnessed Lightning, but since I've got a good amount of energy cards, it's still better due to the GB Aggro pumping too much their creatures.
  5. Ajani Unyielding is just another Planeswalker that enters against Controls to gain card advantage. Not the best, but we'll side out a lot against them.
  6. Quarantine Field can win us matches that were lost due to big threats, mostly represented by Artifacts and Planeswalkers Harder to cast but great in the late game.
  7. Chandra, Torch of Defiance is for faster Aggros and Controls. Getting her emblem is not as hard as one could think, especially with all the removals we can play. It's a constant threat that shines when we can easily disrupt the board.
  8. Chandra, Flamecaller is just another way to deal with GB Aggro and Control. It's a good card, but it needs to be protected. Usually casted with an empty board.
  9. Natural State is my biggest doubt. I've considered Fragmentize or Natural Obsolescence. It's an average card but it's not what we always need against artifact.
  10. Archangel Avacyn   is a creature that usually Control will not counter, because they'll not play Negate against us. It's a good card and helps against Mardu too, if you find them tapped out at the right moment.

Now my doubts:

  • Is the removal package optimal? I'm mostly referring to the Harnessed Lightnings and the Declaration in Stone. Fumigates are proving to be more and more efficient than i thought, but I'm always thinking of there's a chance to balance better or even choose something else in those slots.

  • Are there better Creatures I should consider? Apart from the Servants, should I include in my Mainboard or Sideboard other creatures? I used to run a package of Angels ( Gisela, Sigarda, Linvala ) but they were mostly sub-optimal. What do you think?
