Sideboard

This is a variation on my Alesha Reanimator deck. The core of the deck works the same, so you can check that one out if you don't find it too self-explanatory. The main change for this variation is that I replaced black with white. Why would I do that? The answer is simple: Selfless Spirit. This little monster is simply the easiest way to protect the combo. While my other deck uses Blossoming Defense to achieve this, this requires you to either play Alesha, Who Smiles at Death on turn 3 and hope she survives for a full turn (she won't), or to play her turn 4 and leave up a green for the Defense. With this build, you can play Selfless Spirit turn 2, and then safely play Alesha, Who Smiles at Death on turn 3, keeping the speed intact. Additionally, the Spirit can be recurred each combat, essentially protecting all of your creatures every turn.

So what do we lose with this switch? The biggest blow is Fatal Push, which I've found to be very good removal in most situations. The best replacement is Declaration in Stone, which is arguably better in this deck. Next, we lost Drana, Liberator of Malakir. This flying first-striker also boosts the many tokens the deck pumps out. The best replacement for this that I've found is Angel of Invention. While she doesn't provide counters, she still pumps the team slightly. Along with that, the Angel provides some extra life and flexibility. It could come out as either a small creature with some tokens if you want to go wide, or a larger creature is there are some major threats on the other side of the board. Lastly, Ruinous Path was really good sideboard to help defend against Planeswalkers. Unfortunately, there is no proper counterpart in any other color. What I've decided to do instead is put Fiery Temper in the sideboard. It may not kill a Walker outright, but in this deck it could sometimes be a Lightning Bolt, which is still pretty good.

So what do you think? Are these changes better? Is Selfless Spirit worth all of this trouble? Let me know what you think. Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated.
