Enchantment (1)

(12.05.2014: Updated with awful results from last night. Read update for more details - seeking advice and fine tuning)
Esper Control and monoblack devotion have dominated standard enough. It is time for Chavest midrange to shine and crush the competition. I feel this deck actually has all-round responses against all popular decks, as well as some very powerful threats of its own.
The deck mainly focuses on controlling the board until you can bring out bomb creatures and overwhelm the opponents.
Removal=============================
Removal

  • Devour Flesh - Turn two creature removal. Instant, though gains opponents some life. It's the only direct removal we have to combat hexproof as well as handle early threats. Great against monsters and big-creatures decks.
  • Hero's Downfall - Turn three planeswalker and creature removal. Instant, slower than Devour Flesh but handles a wider range of threats and is targeted removal. Shines against planeswalker as well as GR decks.
  • Banishing Light - Turn three universal targeted removal, though sorcery speed. Can handle pretty much all threats, including indestructibles, powerful creaturess, gods, enchantments etc. The only disadvantage is that it can be reversed. Maybe even with a mirror Banishing Light. Works against pretty much any deck except some variations of burn.
Support=============================
Support

  • Anger of the Gods is the only early sweeper we have available. Most of our creatures are resistant to it except Boros Reckoner , who can reflect the damage anyway. Preferable to Drown in Sorrow because it handles 3 toughness creatures. Excels against aggro, monowhite, monoblack or even monoblue.
  • Thoughtseize is our best solution against pretty much any deck, occasionally including burn. Sometimes we want it cast turn one, other times we prefer to wait before throwing a threat of our own just to ensure we can rob our opponents. The loss of life is unfortunate, but we can gain it back later.
  • Whip of Erebos offers excellent support. Combos with Obzedat, Ghost Council , gives lifegain as well as allows us to give some of our threats a second chance. Keeping the count down to 2 because of the legend rule as well as its low usefulness if no creatures are at hand.
Threats=============================

  • Boros Reckoner is great early game. Makes aggro opponents think twice before they decide to attack us, as well as give some trouble to control decks. Handle them, but leave no mana open and risk having a great threat on the battlefield you can't handle? Has happened to me a couple of times!
  • Desecration Demon is incredibly difficult to handle. Sure, there is removal, but how much removal can our opponents have? Especially shines against GR midrange decks or other variations that lack white (or occasionally black). Token decks should not be a problem because we can always rely on Anger of the Gods to reduce their ranks so they can't sacrifice anything.
  • Blood Baron of Vizkopa is super annoying against the kind of decks I just mentioned above. So they can handle Desecration Demon , but how will they handle a pro-white, pro-black creature? Short of sacrifying it's going to be quite tough to deal with le Baron. Plus he has lifelink.
  • Mogis, God of Slaughter is well-rounded good if we establish board position. The constant struggle between taking damage and sac-ing creatures (in tandem with Desecration Demon and Devour Flesh?) is quite difficult to handle. It becomes even more annoying for control decks that don't have creatures at hand to sacrifice. How many turns before they die from constant pinging?
  • Obzedat, Ghost Council is incredibly difficult to deal with once he resolves against a high range of decks. What's more, he gains you life, pings the opponent every turn and can be brought back with the Whip. 2 copies are a must.
  • Athreos, God of Passage is another nuissance recently added to the concoction here. He is legendary and comes up turn 3, but he will quickly turn into a creature seeing the mana costs we have available for our threats. What's more, he even gives protection against mass removal like Supreme Verdict and Fated Retribution.
  • Elspeth, Sun's Champion wraps it all up. In a bad situation, we can activate her -3. Most often however we will just generate annoying tokens with her, and maybe even activate her ultimate to further boost our ranks. Nevertheless she is one powerful threat I'm always happy to drop on the battlefield

I just got my tush whooped last night against an izzet control deck, featuring Young Pyromancer, Prognostic Sphinx, Guttersnipe and tons of annoying removal and counters - I so hate Rapid Hybridization. Either got mana screwed or did not run into appropriate removal to take care of them. I tend to notice that my hands are quite random and can't really build up an appropriate strategy - it's more of a "what bomb do I topdeck next".
What's interesting is that I was always disappointed to get Athreos in place of something else.
Athreos did prove very powerful in a FFA though where I got to land two Boros Reckoners along with him, followed by a Whip of Erebos enough to help me sustain him as a creature on my turn.
I could really use some advice and ideas on how I could improve this. Thanks guys and girls!
