Affinity? Don't Have That, But We Can Improvise!

Description

Ever heard of Affinity? Well were too poor for that, so instead we have IMPROVISE! (which is kind of what we're doing here in Standard!)

Turn 1: As many Ornithopters as we can shove onto the field!

Turn 2: Many things could happen here, if you can use an Evolving Wilds and have a mana and you had the second turn, you can kill a threat on there board to keep you safe. But your best bet would be a Contraband Kingpin to get you ahead and cycle through your deck. As an additional way to cycle through your deck and for late game value, play a treasure map .

Turn 3: If you have an Ornithopter in play, and a Tezzeret's Touch, you have a 5/5 flier on turn 3, but if you're not that fortunate play a Weaponcraft Enthusiast if you have a Herald of Anguish in hand to potentially play it the next turn!

Turn 4: If you have the right set up, you can play a turn 4 Herald of Anguish, and use its ability to maybe kill a threat on the otherside, this can be used to kill a card:Hazoret,the Fervent to shut down Ramnunap Red. Tezzeret the Schemer is a one of because he's not quite good enough to be anything more, but if you do have him he's certainly not a bad play. The best play besides a Herald of Anguish would be a Hostage Taker.

Turn 5: Swing in for near lethal, and hopefully play a Deadeye Plunderers for a 5 mana 5/5-8/8

Turn 6: They're dead.

Sideboarding:

Fatal Push if you're opponent runs 4 copies of these, your turn 3 5/5 fliers are going to be a pain to get out. Pick cards in the deck you think the matchup won't do much, and replace them with Duress or Negate to protect your creatures.

If you are running against Ramunap Red, you need to put in a few cards to counter it. Bontu's Last Reckoning will get rid of there annoyingly fast board presence. You will also want to include Battle at the Bridge to deal with an annoying Hazoret the Fervent that needs to die.

Fatal Push has a fourth copy in the sideboard because it is by far the best removal in Standard.

My biggest issue is that your early plays are taken down easily by removal.

1) Ornithopters are wiped by Abrade, Harnessed Lightning, Fatal Push, Sweltering Suns, etc. pre-buff, most removal that can kill it can be done in response to casting Tezzeret's Touch and even if you do clear those hurdles, they are cleared by a decent amount of removal post-buff. Even if you side in counters and hand disruption Game 2, that means that you have to side out your other options beyond the Ornithopters.

2) Herald of Anguish is fine, but with your artifacts being so easy to kill, it doesn't have a high chance of comung down early enough to make a difference. Perhaps adding Servo Schematic may help (it's an artifact that pops out a servo when it enters and leaves, making it a decent target for Tezz. Touch).

3) You're lacking in the removal department and there's not much of a Plan B. Let's say you face Temur Energy: once they hit turn 3-4, they have either a way to produce thopters to block your flyers or Bristling Hydra that can literally ignore your current removal. Azban Tokens is another deck that can just make chump blockers for days and gain back any of the life that you managed to take. Your deck beating Mono Red relies on you getting a reallu great hand (and the Game 2 Bontu potentially sets you up to get hit hard the next turn with hasty creatures). U/W Approach will just make sure your board never builds up. My point is that your deck functions in a vacuum, but it has very little stopping power.

I know it's not very good but Gearseeker Serpent does (basically) have affinity.
