Modern EDH is a primeval wilderness, full of giant monsters that come out way too fast; it's about "swing with the team," not about strategy, defense, and careful planning. But Green used to be a civilized color, almost as cultured as White. This deck's an attempt to recover the old civilized Green, and tame the wilderness with industry and discipline.

Armed with Archetype of Finality + Knighthood , your Soldiers and Pegasi can kill forest monsters, and pierce the thickest samurai armor. (Magic has used Deathtouch to represent guns before: see Alaborn Zealot , in particular.) Or you can just pull out one of the deck's infinite-mana combos, and blow up all your enemies with a billion pegasi apiece.

The deck has a bare minimum of basic-land-typed lands; it used to have zero, but it was getting slowed down a little too much. But I can live with slowdown if it forces Mirri and the ghosts of the marshes to fight me on my own terms.

Following Philigan87, considering replacing Sidar Kondo and Tymna the Weaver with Ghave, Guru of Spores. If I do: Sidar Kondo >> Ghave; Tymna >> Ashnod's Altar; Crackdown >> Cathars' Crusade.

Infinite Combos

• Sword of the Paruns is the centerpiece of a lot of lazy combos. In this deck, try Priest of Titania + Sword of the Paruns if 3 Elves are in the game, or Argothian Elder + Sword of the Paruns if you have 2 lands that tap for 2 mana apiece.
• Used to be running Nacre Talisman + Serra's Sanctum + Stormfront Riders + 8 enchantments ( Heliod, God of the Sun makes 8 a much less gigantic number), but dropped the Nacre Talisman for a Cloudstone Curio . Is this a good idea? I think so -- it synergizes with my comes-into-play creatures, where Nacre Talisman is often a dead draw -- but it means I'm only running one infinite combo now, apart from Nacre Talisman + Stormfront Riders ' infinite comes-into-play triggers (without infinite death triggers, and only when the Stormfront Riders stays on the board).

Interactions and Single-Card Notes

• Night Soil disrupts Dredge decks, generates tokens, acts as a generic mana sink, and provides that wonderful "I'm killing you with Fallen Empires" flavor. I'm pleased to see that the price spiked recently!
• Stormfront Riders and Dust Elemental reuse the deck's strong comes-into-play effects. Cloudstone Curio further empowers them -- and makes it possible to get more uses out of Windbrisk Heights .
• Thalia's Lancers can tutor up a bit of anything. I'm really happy that a few knights have found their way into this deck!
• Shred Memory can tutor for Allay and Disturbed Burial -- or Dark Confidant , if I draw it in the early game.
• Dimir House Guard can tutor for almost anything else, including both Argothian Elder and Sword of the Paruns .
• Sacred Mesa is a beautiful card (especially with the original Mirage art), and I'm very happy to discover that it's mechanically useful too. You get one creature arrival and one creature death per turn, for as long as it's in play; all I'm doing with it right now is Black Market + Essence Warden + Sacred Mesa , but this card has a lot of potential in Orzhov or Abzan colors.
• Black Market + 6 different Wrath effects should be a lot of fun. (The card's from Masques, but I only discovered it in the Edgar Markov precon deck.) The deck's thirsty for mana in general; I'd be happier if Black Market could power Sacred Mesa, but at least there's Disturbed Burial for a black-colored mana sink.
• Growing Rites of Itlimoc   is practically Gaea's Cradle , minus the ability to win the game on turn 1. I have high hopes for this card!

Concerns and Questions

• Soul Foundry makes me a little nervous. It's powerful but slow, and no one in his right mind will let me get away with Bloodline Keeper + Soul Foundry or Priest of Titania + Soul Foundry . Would I rather put my Congregation at Dawn back in?
• Heliod, God of the Sun integrates well with the deck, but getting WW consistently is hard. How do I make him more useful?
• If there weren't so many Wraths in this format (whistles innocently in Abzanian), I'd consider Intrepid Hero instead of Nekrataal .
• Do I run enough spot removal?
• Enough ways to bounce creatures back to my hand?
• Treasure Hunter ? Dowsing Shaman ? Cartographer ? Skull of Orm ? Crystal Chimes ? ... Soldevi Digger ? I doubt it. The deck has a lot of win conditions; knock out one key card and I can pull out another, often from a non-overlapping combo. Treasure Hunter and Cartographer fit the deck's modest comes-into-play subtheme; Soldevi Digger is neat in general, but slow to take effect. Dowsing Shaman has the same problem as Intrepid Hero .
• Should I run a Perish instead of one of my Wraths?
• Freyalise, Llanowar's Fury : usable as one of my 98 cards, or not? I like all three of her abilities, but she feels a little slow...
• Fall of the Thran instead of Catastrophe ? With the right cards, it becomes reusable -- but I think it would be best in a Bant Enchantress deck, where I could run it with Capsize .
• Ashnod's Altar + Farrelite Priest + Sacred Mesa is a really eloquent expression of what Mono-White is about; it's at least as bad of a flavor fail as running Elvish Fury in a Cat Warrior deck. But Ashnod's Altar is the classic "Exile Me Please" card, which always indicates that its player is about to go infinite with it; and Farrelite Priest is normally a dead draw.
