Hey guys!

GIFSoup

Well, its DRAGONS!!!. and aggro isn't pulling its weight. But now, against matchups with too many creatures like Aggro and the boogieman, Dragons, control doesn't work enough. And with the luckiest pack I've ever opened on 2/20/2015 (Mentor and shiny Tasigur), I have all the Fate Reforged Weapons I need.

Fleecemane

So I was looking at some lists online, and looked at David Jones's list on SCG games, and I liked it. Enough to convert some of my cards over to it. What I realized is that while Satyr Wayfinder has a good ETB and is nice Sidisi food, Fleecemane Lion is just much better and ends up being a powerful threat.

What is a Tasigoyf?

Why do I say Tasigoyf? If you have 4 (different creature types) cards in your yard by T2 (somehow) you can play a 4/5 Tarmogoyf or a Tasigur, the Golden Fang, which is a 4/5. Tasigoyf's P&T don't flux (which in most cases, is good, but Tasigur can't be a 5/6 without +1/+1 counters) and, Tasigoyf has his ability, which is goddamn amazing.

A Quick Introduction to the concept of this deck:

So, right now, this deck is a midrange list, with elements definitely leaning towards control, like my arsenal of removal, Tasigur, the Golden Fang, and Sidisi, Undead Vizier, and some leading towards aggro, like Anafenza, the Foremost, Fleecemane Lion , & Dromoka's Command. I think intuitively, I like to run midrange decks leaning enough towards control to keep pace and prepare for the long game, while still clutching to that midrange side.

Beats

I'm not quite sure why, but YouTube isn't quite working on here, so once it works, the videos will show.

Just some beats to bump.

If rap just isn't your jam, then here's some Maroon 5.

I'll update the playlist and take requests with more upvotes.

Breakdown

The Dudes

Siege Rhino

Siege Rhino: I think this guy is the most flavorful Abzan card; It's a beast of war and in war, it endures, being a 4/5 for 4, passing the Vanilla Test, and it even has a relationship to the kin-trees. How? Because it just saps the life out of your opponent!

Tasigur, the Golden Fang: There's only 1 reason to play this card: To have a card where there is a fruit bowl zombie.

But honest to God, Tasigur is a BEAST. Getting spells back is just amazing, and if it hits any one of my 16 removal spells, its even better. He's as big as my long time homie, Siege Rhino, and he has synergy with Monastery Mentor and Courser of Kruphix. And delve is just whipped cream, letting you nearly guarantee the card you want back. Tasigoyf is a easy win con in this deck. He may never have done a day of work in his life, but he does a ton of work in this deck.

Monastery Mentor: The king of kill spells is back! Monastery Mentor is a hyper-valuable creature that lets my deck go wider against decks that want to go wide (looking at Mono / Any deck [Dragons, Atarka , Devotion, Bees]) and has synergy with Tasigoyf, any noncreature spell (especially Sorin, Solemn Visitor ) and if nothing else, is a removal target. Delving a Murderous Cut is super nice, killing something and getting a token is nice, and having every noncreature spell be at least a 1 & 3/4 for 1 is good.

Fleecemane Lion : As you may have noticed, most of my early pressure is in kitties. Much kitties. Such wows. Very tactical. Anyways, 3/3 for 2 passes the Vanilla Test, and on turn 5, 4/4 indestructible hexproof slugger. Duneblast : End Hostilities. It kills. A lot. Every hornet. Every token. Every Goblin Rabblemaster. And I get to keep my best creature. Also, the Abzan Control/Midrange decks like that of Brad Nelson and others (I list names if I can remember them) have that Fleecemane side-ins. Also, this is a good whip and Tasigoyf target.

Sidisi, Undead Vizier: I like this card. A lot. Like, one hell of a lot. The synergies in this deck is REAL nice. So, I can play it, get a card I need in exchange for a Soldier Token, and load up my yard for delve. So why not?

Courser of Kruphix: Courser of Kruphix has a big ass. And also is one, because she's a 2/4 for 3, makes any land drop good, makes me not punished for using fetches, and is a reliable swinger/blocker. Although the is a pain in the ass... her 4 toughness ass!

The Removal

Hero's Downfall

Dromoka's Command: This card is at the near PINNACLE of efficiency. Hunt the Weak for 2 is probably the most common mode, but blocking out red removal/burn is real nice, and killing an enchantment is good against whip and god decks.

Sorin, Solemn Visitor : Not only great in the creature aspect of this deck, but is a great form of removal. Kills Caryatids, monstrous Fleecemanes, and even the biggest, most unkillable dudes. The fact that you don't get to choose sucks, but it works as a nice form of cheap removal.

Hero's Downfall : It's a Super- Murder , as well as no Nissas, Kioras, Sarkhans, Sorins, Ajanis (both of them), Elspeths, Xenagos's, Ashioks, Jaces, Lilianas, Ugins, and most importantly right now, Narsets.

Abzan Charm: The Swiss Army knife of my deck, also lets me kill all the Savage Knuckleblade s. Yays all around.

But also, this card can kill an arsenal of creatures. Dragonlords (other than the new Ojutai) die to this card. Regents die to this card. Khans die to this card. Therian bombs die to this card. I might have not originally given this card the props it deserved, but trust me, it was extremely painful to cut a copy of it. It's just the best charm I've had the pleasure of running.

Bile Blight: This metagame is being more and more influenced by tokens every day, so I think currently, this is better than Ultimate Price . But I can swap for Price in a heartbeat if need be.

Murderous Cut: Instead of the Valourous Stance or Ultimate Price , I've went with the delve card. I really wanted a super efficient card that could usually be a removal spell for that sometimes I could tutor up with Sidisi, Undead Vizier on T6 to just snap off a creature.

The Card Advantage

Whip

Thoughtseize: Yeah yeah yeah, sure, technically this is card advantage, being a 1 for 1, but neither is Chord of Calling. But what makes both of these good is I get to get to have or take away a card I want. So Thoughtseize like 1 for 1 card I really don't like my opponent having.

Read the Bones: I like card advantage. It's kinda a mix of Sign in Blood and Preordain. I only want 1 mainboard, but it's nice against control. I've found Abzan drawing cards in this format to be much better than in Khans Abzan or FRF Abzan.

Abzan Charm: The Swiss Army knife of my deck, also lets me draw cards to fill up my hand. Yays all around. Deja vu too.

All Planeswalkers, Tasigur, and Sidisi fit in here.

The Finishers

'Speth

Elspeth, Sun's Champion: Temur players have nightmares about this card. Need blockers? Done. Need a boardwipe for 3 and over? Done. Need a floatie steroid bonus to all the dudes you play? Done, done, done!

Siege Rhino, Wingmate Roc , Tasigur, the Golden Fang and Monastery Mentor fit here too.

The Sideboard

MOTU

Rakshasa Deathdealer : If I need to outpace a deck, this card definitely helps out. It's near impossible to kill, and will hit your opponent for a jillion damage near the end of a game. And Esper Dragons only has ~1 (or 4 if there is no Hero's Downfall ) Utter End, which is the only answer to it (if you don't count Banishing Light and Devouring Light, which are niche playable)

Anafenza, the Foremost: I know this seems weird in a Abzan Midrange/Aggro, but bear with me. Beefing up my dudes is great, her exile opposing grave ability is fabulous against Sidisi Whip or Abzan Whip. And a 4/4 for 3? Well, Anafenza has officially made it into the Vanilla Test Hall of Fame!

Another thing is that my game shop, Crazy Timmys, has a couple of people that use the graveyard to their advantage with the Mono- Devotion Splash Palace Siege Alesha, Who Smiles at Death Sidisi Wombo Combo deck, as well as a Chromantiflayer deck, and an early Anafenza hoses them.

Another thing: Esper Dragons has a hard time racing it. It's a 4/4, so it's usually a big removal target.

Drown in Sorrow: This + Mono Red or Jeskai tokens = Win. Scrying is also good to help find a Bile Blight or End Hostilities .

End Hostilities : The boardwipe. Yeah. But its a good Sidisi target (a card I am increasingly thinking is better every time I play it) and kicks the shit out of aggro (my test partner/brother's STD deck I will add link soon)

Arashin Cleric : This against mono aggro looks really good. It works very nicely with Drown in Sorrow, & can block their little guys without issues. I haven't played against mono a lot, but the next time I play at the Mox Boarding House, I can test this out.

Mastery of the Unseen: To be honest, I need to test this card out in this deck, as I'm not completely positive why it is in a lot of Abzan lists. My thought is that it's nice against any deck that is abysmally slow. I think it will be nice against Esper Dragons and Dragons/Control.

Duress: Yet another card for control, however, this could be one of the most valuable weapons. If I go T1 Duress against Esper Control, I could take their Thoughtseize, Duress, or more importantly, Silumgar's Scorn. There will almost always be a target for Duress.

Foul-Tongue Invocation : I guess I needed a Diabolic Edict. this card has been sided in against me in the mirror, and I thought I would return the favor. Foul-Tongue Invocation deals with opposing Fleecemane Lion s, Rakshasa Deathdealer s, and more importantly, Dragonlord Ojutai and Dragonlord Silumgar .

The Strategy

Tasigoyf

This deck likes stuff to be on the board to trade or attack early, since pressure is an issue a bit, since you have to kill things instead of advancing a boardstate. If you can land a threat, you're usually in a good position. Although, the biggest finisher is a planeswalker with dudes out. Elspeth can just provide bodies that can't be blocked easily, and Sorin can get you enough life when you have a significant boardstate to just go on the offensive. If you get a Sorin with a rhino out, you're golden. If you have 2 other blockers, you're usually even good to swing in.

A monstrous Fleecemane Lion is the best creature in your deck. But if it's not monstrous, then any other creature is better. Tasigur generates massive amounts of card advantage, Sidisi helps you find the tool in your deck you need, Rhino can turn a losing position into a stable position, and Courser will make the game go longer and help you ensure you can cast your spells.

For removal, you want to kill manadorks or tokens/token makers with cards like Bile Blight, and Stormbreath Dragons with Hero's Downfall and Ultimate Price . Utter End is for more pesky cards like Palace Siege and Whip of Erebos. You want to cast removal spells in a clump instead of 1 this turn, 1 the next turn, and so on. Also, another thing that I sometimes forget, Dromoka's Command basically has kill an enchantment creature printed on it. A short list of enchantment creatures that matter: Courser of Kruphix, Eidolon of the Great Revel, Doomwake Giant , Boon Satyr , Keranos, God of Storms and gods.

Sorin, Solemn Visitor is better to play when you have at least a Courser of Kruphix or better out. When you can cast it, you should play Elspeth, Sun's Champion first than a Sorin, Solemn Visitor , just because if they kill it, you have tokens to give +1/+0 & lifelink too.

Well, theres my brew, Abzan Tasigoyf. Any suggestons, comments, and advice greatly appreciated and +1's are gladly accepted. Seriously. +1. Now. NOW!!!
