What Destroyed the World Was... Caarrdd Gaammeess

Standard* BGW (Abzan, Junk) Control Midrange

GoldGhost012

Sideboard

In the future, the world as we know it has been destroyed. Humanity's ignorance has caused the planet to become ravaged and lifeless.

"But how? Was it global warming?"

"Nuclear war?"

No, none of those things happened! What destroyed the world was... caaaaarrrrrrrdddddd gaaaaaaaammmmmmmeeeeeeeessssssss.

"What?"

That is riiiigggghhhhhttttt, caaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrdddddddddddd gaaaaammmmmmmeeeeeeesssssss.

"You're serious?"

Yeeeeeesssssss, verrrryyyyyyyyyy.

"How?"

What?

"How did card games destroy the world?"

Well, I was not actually there, but I heard that someone played a card game, and then BOOM! End of the world.

It totally happened! Just like I said. Just card game- BOOM! Everyone dead.

(Paradox represents me, by the way. The others represent... well, everyone else.)

This deck is basically an introduction on how to kill things.

The card game that ended the world happened when someone played End Hostilities, by the way.

One of the specialties of Abzan is getting rid of things. KILL SPELLS KILL SPELLS KILL SPELLS!!!! And exile stuff. And other such control-y things.

Blast them into dust!

Elspeth, Sun's Champion- Usually used for token armies, but can act as an emergency wipe.

End Hostilities- The boardwipe of choice this Standard season.

Hero's Downfall- The immediate go-to kill spell for black decks.

Send things to oblivion!

Abzan Charm- A pseudo- Last Breath with extra versatility.

Banishing Light- Arguably the best exile spell in terms of mana cost and possible targets.

Suspension Field- A slightly weaker Banishing Light.

Advantageous card advantage!

Abzan Charm- Night's Whisper, plus some extra modes.

Ajani, Mentor of Heroes- Digs for one of my many walkers or one of my finishing creatures.

Courser of Kruphix- Helps smooth out draws by getting rid of land clumps. Also works well with fetch lands when you need a shuffle.

Read the Bones- a better Night's Whisper.

Temple of Malady, Temple of Plenty, Temple of Silence - Scry lands. 'Nuff said.

Annoying hand disruption!

Thoughtseize- The "duh" discard spell. I will destroy your hand, thank you very much.

Stabilize the life! CLEAR!

Ajani Steadfast- Requires a good creature, but wow, lifelink, first strike, and vigilance at the same time is nothing to scoff at. And his emblem completely wrecks the game for your opponent, if it gets there.

Ajani, Mentor of Heroes- When his ultimate goes off, you've probably won the game. But will it ever get to that point?

Courser of Kruphix- Life for land drops. Very important with Thoughtseizes and Mana Confluences.

Resolute Archangel- When I really need to stabilize late game and/or when I'm in deep shit. 3-color land bases can really take a toll on my life total, and for whatever reason, people like to attack me.

Siege Rhino- Small stabilization; the best part is easily the 4/5 trampling bod for 4.

Finishing a game!

Ajani Steadfast- Either his +1 or -2 is very good when I have a decent amount of creatures/Planeswalkers.

Ajani, Mentor of Heroes- 3 +1/+1 counters is a lot of +1/+1 counters at once.

Elspeth, Sun's Champion- Hello, token army ring a bell? What about a buffed, flying token army? Or a buffed, flying anything?

Fleecemane Lion- A very resilient threat that can either be dropped early or held back late. It's a great feeling to Monstrous him, then cast End Hostilities.

Nissa, Worldwaker- Her second +1 and her ultimate aren't that great in a tri-color build, but her ability to make 4/4s right after a boardwipe? Glorious.

Siege Rhino- Seriously? 4/5 trampler doesn't ring a bell? For 4 mana? That saps an opponent's life?

Sideboard

Despise- another helpful (and less painful) discard spell against midrange decks.

Drown in Sorrow- Boardwipe for aggro. Goblin Rabblemaster can go to hell.

Phyrexian Revoker- Puts a stop to troublesome things like Prognostic Sphinx and Planeswalkers.

Nyx-Fleece Ram- Wall for dayz!! And it gives me free life.

Reclamation Sage- I've already had one bad incidence against the Ornithopter + Ensoul Artifact decks, and I'd like to never have one again.
