Saturday Night Modern 3-0-1! —Oct. 6, 2018

Welp tonight was another great night with some major changes:

Swapped out a Mogg Fanatic for a Fanatical Firebrand. The Firebrand has haste and is definitely worth testing with or against Fanatic.

Added in Mutavaults. This was one of the wise decisions that I have made due to some complete testing. First of all, it gives me something to do with the with Burning-Tree Emissary. It dodges both Liliana of the Veil and Liliana, the Last Hope as well as sorcery speed boardwipes like Supreme Verdict and Terminus. Because it only produces colorless mana, I only put in 2 so I won't get a 2-land hand with only 2 Mutavaults. Best thing about it is that I've sacked it to Goblin Grenade for the win because it is in fact a Goblin. Those of you who don't see my reasoning behind adding these super powerful lands need to play this deck and win using the lands.

Put in a Smuggler's Copter. Although it is not a Goblin and is a 2-drop, it allows this deck to do things it couldn't do before. First of all, it loots. I can dump extra lands or try my luck to draw a burn spell to close out the game. Second, it's the deck's only flyer. It can block most Spirits, Mantis Rider, Lingering Souls, and other threats in the air. It can close out games because it flies over Elves. Pyromancer tokens, and Eldrazi.

Currently testing The Flame of Keld. So far it has proven itself to be a game-changer in the late game, dumping my hand that ceased to exist due to me playing every card. It draws me some cards next, then gives my ENTIRE DECK a boost that can, and will, close out games.

First round: 2-1 against UB 8-Rack,

This matchup was weird. I didn't want to dump my hand but I also did because then I could get in fast. Mutavault was especially helpful in winning all 3 games. I topdecked a Goblin Grenade 1st game for the win and a Lightning Bolt 3rd game for the win overall.

Second Round: 2-1 against Jeskai Control

I didn't know that mainboarding Timely Reinforcements was even a thing. Thankfully, one Path to Exile doesn't stop two Legion Loyalists from giving my team unblockable. Second game he topdecked a Terminus and swung with Celestial Colonnade. Third game he got mana screwed and I was easily able to steal the win.

Third round: 2-1 against Affinity

This was one of my good friends, who is trying to completely foil-out Affinity because he loves the deck so much. He had a godlike hand game 1 that I couldn't do anything about. Game 2 I sided in my artifact removal and Forked Bolts and that seemed to do the trick against a couple of Vault Skirges. Game 3 he got me down to 4 with an Ornithopter with Cranial Plating on it, but I topdecked two Smash to Smithereens and completely flipped the game in my favor.

I decided to draw round 4 to end with a 3-0-1 record for the night.

Let me know what you think about Devastating Summons in this list!
