An up to date, competitive 8 Rack list with sprinkles of my own deck building thoughts.
This list features 4x Polluted Delta (any black fetchland will do) 2x Hostile Desert and an extra Funeral Charm to avoid the non-bo of Ensnaring Bridge in other deck lists. I feel like the man-lands are important to 8-Rack in pushing extra damage to secure some victories and they become a bit useless when you introduce the bridge. Therefor, the obvious solution is to go full creature-less or lean heavily on the man-land strategy. If we do the latter, we get to utilise some really cool synergies.
We use the fetch lands, as well as the usual retraced lands from Raven's Crime, to feed the Hostile Deserts which swing harder than our Mutavaults. This also gives us a way of revolting Fatal Push whenever we want if we have an Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth because our fetchlands simply tap for black mana. Finally, the extra Funeral Charm is for those niche moments when we get to pump our man-lands by 2 power or giving them Swampwalk for the win.
The Sideboard contains the usual suspects of Surgical Extraction, Bontu's Last Reckoning, Collective Brutality and Delirium Skeins whilst also having the best universal Tron/Combo hate in the form of Dampening Sphere. The spice here is the 2x Waste Not and 2x Amulet of Safekeeping.
Waste Not is a hotly debated card among rack enthusiasts and it's generally concluded to be not worth it, however, with the current ubiquity of Faithless Looting decks (Dredge and Arclight Phoenix Decks) as well as Dredge and it's Hugs (Cathartic Reunion), Waste Not is positioned to provide plenty of value without us needing to do any of the work! Turn 2, do nothing enchantments aren't so bad when your opponent turns them into mana, card draw and literal Zombies on their turn as they try to spin their wheels.
Amulet of Safekeeping is the new hotness to combat decks such as Burn and Storm as your opponent fails to pay those additional costs for anything that targets you. Basically it's black's own Thalia, Guardian of Thraben. It also comes with a bonus feature of completely blanking most token strategies. Say hello to Mardu and Storm's 0/1 tokens!
