72 percent of the cards in this deck would love to get hit by a Thoughtseize
This is my version of Dredgevine. I am trying to attack the Modern metagame. The first thing I thought was every modern deck has a greedy manabase. But that has already been done with Blue Moon. So, then I thought that every modern deck likes to kill creatures. While that is not true, it was the basis for this deck. The graveyard is simply another resource, just like my hand.
Card Choices
For the sake of my time, I have grouped the cards into categories and talked about them there.
Maindeck
These cards are the core of my deck. Vengevine is the best of these four. A 4/3 with haste is deceptively powerful, especially on turn three. After that, Bloodghast is the best, because it turns our lands live. After that, Gravecrawler casts, so it can reanimate Vengevine with another creature spell. Lastly,
Bloodsoaked Champion
comes back, and that's why I play it. While I hate Stinkweed Imp, it pretty much walls Infect and Lands!, which are both matchups I've lost to, so I guess it has its place.
The
Lotleth Troll
's hold this deck together. It lets me discard the coming-back creatures in my hand, and it makes the troll bigger. Birds of Paradise accelerates me into bigger creatures faster, plus there is a certain feeling in resolving a turn two Liliana of the Veil. Grisly Salvage lets me find a
Lotleth Troll
while putting four Vengevine into the yard. Perfect.
hooting mandrils
is a one-mana 4/4 that is perfect as well.
I'm not sure what should be a playset and what should be a three-of, but I know both of these spells are important to the Rock aspect of the deck, which is almost as important as the combo aspect of the deck.
Abrupt Decay is good. Just good. As is a one mana dredge-three. The killing of a lot of creatures is just the icing on the cake.
Sideboard
I have decided that I can beat the creature decks. Therefore, what's left is combo and control, both decks that want their cards. More discard deprives them of their cards.
More accurately, the small creature matchups are the ones I can beat. Tarmagoyfs pose some problem, so here are the answers.
Creeping Corrosion is for Affinity, Gnaw to the Bone is for Burn, and Tormod's Crypt is for graveyard decks.
T3 Win!
Turn 1: Swamp,
Bloodsoaked Champion
(20-20)
Turn 2: Forest, Grisly Salvage putting 4x Vengevine and taking
Lotleth Troll
, attack with
Bloodsoaked Champion
(20-18)
Turn 3: Swamp,
Lotleth Troll
, Gravecrawler returning 4x Vengevine to the battlefield, attack with
Bloodsoaked Champion
and 4x Vengevine (20-0)
Help Needed
I am especially looking for help on a few things:
- Help on the sideboard.
