Budget Sidisi EDH Mill Deck

The Plan is to heavily build around Sidisi, Brood Tyrant as a commander in play. Best scenario, you have her out in turn 2-3 and keep her on the board as long as possible. When she leaves the board be sure to recast her asap and don't be afraid to let her go to the graveyard when the commander tax is too high; This deck can reanimate. When working with this decklist, keep in mind that every creature is a potential zombie token so effects are worth more if printed on a creature. The deck is focused at best and can easily be improved upon, but as my first commander deck it has to fit my wallet and excitement about all the new and old cards I found/revisited.

  1. DREDGING Dredge works like a charm with Sidisi. This includes Dakmor Salvage, Golgari Thug, Golgari Grave-Troll and Life from the Loam. Dakmor Salvage is a very delicate blessing for this type of deck because lands are hard to remove and work with for other players. A well known duo is Dakmore Salvage + The Gitrog Monster which provides an awesome basis for many combos. Apart from an easy win with Dakmor Salvage + The Gitrog Monster + Laboratory Maniac, this can also get you through most of your deck 2 cards each and assemble an enormous zombie army.

  3. Mill yourself Cards like Extractor Demon, Undead Alchemist, Mesmeric Orb, Embalmer's Tools, Perpetual Timepiece and Altar of Dementia all work like a charm with Sidisi, Brood Tyrant. When you already have an enormous army assembled, the Altar of Dementia can even kill other players considering tribal buffs for your zombies. Mesmeric Orb and Embalmer's Tools are awesome because you go through your deck one by one. Considering the high percentage of creatures, milling 2-3 cards should give you a zombie in most cases. Perpetual Timepiece also offers some instant speed graveyard-hate protection which honestly there could be more of in this deck.

  5. Graveyard plays So when milling yourself you obviously want cards that care about either being in the graveyard or other cards being in the graveyard. Apart from Wonder which can magically send your zombie army flying, posing a very sudden threat, the deck uses some unearth/flashback mechanics. With Corpse Connoisseur, Extractor Demon, Dread Return or Forbidden Alchemy you have several concrete options in your graveyard. Dread Return is particularly good because after some milling you will have several answers in your graveyard and enough zombies to reanimate them. To not miss out on any important keypieces in your graveyard, cards like Phyrexian Reclamation (awesome art, had to be in here), Eternal Witness, Animate Dead, Dread Return, Victimize, Mortuary Mire, Golgari Thug, Whisper, Blood Liturgist or even Living Death can return just what you need. Considering most of your cards will be in our graveyard at some point, some of these basically tutor what you need. To get specific cards into your graveyard there is Entomb, Buried Alive and Mausoleum Secrets which also works as a tutor in this deck. For cards getting stronger with your graveyard we have Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord, Golgari Grave-Troll and Hans' Nemesis: the Lhurgoyf. Last but not least, one of my favourite cards, the Gravecrawler, could not be missing in this list. He offers tremendous combo potential and is also another zombie.

  7. Ramp So of course I could heavily upgrade the lands in this deck, but this is a budget deck and for a focused deck the manabase works well. For direct ramp there is Sakura-Tribe Elder, Far Wanderings, Satyr Wayfinder, Farhaven Elf and Deathsprout which doubles as a removal. When milling yourself, you will see many lands in graveyard so the Ramunap Excavator and Life from the Loam are your best friends. This also enables you to actually use The Gitrog Monster and Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord in normal play. Just a week ago I found out about the Urborg Elf and could not resist. Of course there also is the obligatory Sol Ring and a Golgari Signet for extra mana.
  8. ---
  9. Assemble your army Zombies are great not only for going broad but also for their tribal buffs. Death Baron, Diregraf Captain and Ohran Frostfang can make your zombie army a very deadly threat, while Wonder sends them into the air.
  10. ---
  11. Removal and Counterplay As you want to have as many effects as possible on a creature, Shriekmaw, Avatar of Woe, Reclamation Sage and Fleshbag Marauder are just what you want. Apart from that there is Living Death which, in most cases, changes even the worst board in your favour. Murderous Cut which will cost you in most cases and Deathsprout offer good single removal. The Silumgar Sorcerer allows for a quick counter but honestly there could be more counters in a BUG deck.
  12. ---
  13. Carddraw For drawing cards there is Frantic Search, Mulldrifter, Ohran Frostviper, Path of Discovery, Fact or Fiction, Gravepurge and Bone Harvest. Some of these cards really shine in other aspects of the deck, but there could be more effective and fast carddraw on the long run. Suggestions are always welcome :)
  • Gravepurge + Sidisi, Brood Tyrant or Bone Harvest + Sidisi, Brood Tyrant work wonders with this decklist. Especially if you are ready to mill yourself with Mesmeric Orb or Embalmer's Tools.
  • Apart from copying and exiling cards from any graveyard, The Scarab God loves your zombie army. Modulo boardwipes you can wait our your remaining opponents in some games.
  • I cannot stress enough how well Syr Konrad, the Grim works in this deck. You will have tons of creatures leaving play from various zones and when facing other aggro- or even token-decks, he will be a serious threat. Also he can mill you (and others) so apart from his high CMC there's no reason not to play him here. He actually won several games for this deck, reanimating him is always an option.
  • So an insane cascade of zombies is on its way if you have Path of Discovery + Sidisi, Brood Tyrant out. Together with Altar of Dementia, Embalmer's Tools or Mesmeric Orb this can go through your deck insanely fast and assemble huge zombie armies. The only downside is the execution time which can be kind-of shortcut but be in for some rolling eyes.
  • I'm not 100% happy about LabMan wins yet but having read any two lines of the text so far, you know he's a very possible wincon. Apart from all the milling, there's also the Dakmor Salvage + Laboratory Maniac + The Gitrog Monster Combo.

I'm always happy about suggestions and comments on the deck! It's a lot of fun to play and includes many cheap/staple cards so be sure to test it. It's also very easy to improve the deck to a higher powerlevel, there might be a separate section for that in the future or even a new decklist.

If you like the list feel free to leave an upvote +1 and many many suggestions :)
